LEXINGTON — Madison Central’s historic run at the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament came to an end Saturday in Lexington.

All three Indian wrestlers who advanced to the second day of the tournament were eliminated before the medal round.

Tucker Fair won both his matches on Friday to move into the third round, but he suffered a loss by fall to Sam Preston of Johnson Central. In the consolation bracket, Fair then lost to David Bergman.

Ryan Mosher and Dustin Fugate both posted 2-1 records on the opening day of the contest and were still alive in the consolation bracket.

Fugate picked up a 3-0 decision over Raynel Brown of Union County Saturday in his first match before falling to Shane Speed of Graves County by fall.

Mosher was eliminated from the tournament with a loss to Sam Wilbanks of Moore in a third-round consolation match.

“We had three wrestlers finish one round away from being named All-State,” Central coach John Wes Watts said. “It’s a great building block for our improving program.”

In the four-year history of the program, Central had never had a wrestler reach the second day of the state tournament. Only one Indian wrestler had ever even won a match — Jerome Williams in 2010.

Central wrestlers won six matches Friday at the state meet.

Fair won his first match of the tournament by pinning Mark Thompson of John Hardin in 3:17. The junior then picked up a 5-4 win over Aaron Stevens of Trigg County.

Mosher easily won his first match of the tournament, pinning Chris Risch of Dixie Heights in 3:50. In the second round, the senior was defeated by Seron Martin of Jeffersontown, 7-4, in overtime. He rebounded from that setback with a 7-2 win over Mike Sanders of Bullitt Central.

Fugate lost his first match of tournament, falling 10-3 to Gabriel Lord of Fern Creek. The senior then pinned Brad Weber of Ryle and defeated Johnathan Beagley of Perry County Central, 4-3.
