#1
Cincinnati, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph University Lions built upon a six-point halftime lead to pull away from the Transylvania men's basketball team, 90-69 at the Harrington Center on Wednesday evening.

The loss dropped the Pioneers to 15-7 overall, and 10-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Lions improved to 12-3 in conference play with the win to move into a three-way tie for first place along with Rose-Hulman and Hanover.

The Pioneers were outshot from the field 64 percent to 43 percent in the first half by the Lions, yet only trailed 40-34 at the half. But Transylvania could not subdue the Lions in the second half as the home team shot 16-for-29 from the floor in the final period along with 11 made three-pointers.

Junior guard Cooper Theobald led the Pioneers with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field while adding a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Michael Jefferson paced the Pioneers with four assists in Wednesday's loss.

The Pioneers won the rebounding battle, grabbing 31 boards to the Lions' 30, but Mt. St. Joseph shared the ball adeptly, racking 23 assists to 12 for the Pioneers.

Transylvania will try to get back on the winning side this Saturday, February 10 when it visits the Defiance College Yellow Jackets in Defiance, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
