(6) UPIKE 84 Simmons 50
#1
PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- A season-best 83 percent showing from the free-throw line (25-30) helped the sixth-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team overcome 19 turnovers in an 84-50 win over Simmons in the final non-conference test of the season on Saturday.

Jordan Perry led the effort from the stripe, going 11 of 12 to finish with a game-high 21 points. Chase Parsley added 13 points and six assists, Jayvian Delacruz finished with 10 points and nine rebounds and Rodney Hawkins added nine points and nine boards as well.

Darrion Leslie was the most efficient player on the floor, shooting 6 of 7 from the field to finish with 12 points and seven rebounds as the Bears outshot the Falcons (4-12) 51-26 percent from the field.

Although UPIKE (22-2) led the game in assists 17-5, its head coach Kelly Wells won't be happy about the season-high 19 turnovers. A dominant effort on the glass (56-23) may ease the pain as the 43 defensive boards are the most of the season.

Simmons led 4-2 early on and earned its last tie at 7-7. It took a couple minutes to get going, but the Bears eventually rattled off 12 straight points to take a 19-7 lead with 15:00 left in the first half.

When Michael Chambers made two free throws a minute later to go up by 11, Simmons was never able to get within single digits again. Instead, a 13-1 run followed over the last four minutes of the half to put the Bears up by as many as 25 points in the frame on a 3-pointer by Perry.

UPIKE outscored Simmons 11-2 over the first six minutes of the second half and eventually saw its lead eclipse 40 points at 84-43 on a layup by George Johnson with 2:52 to play. With the Bears missing their last three shots and turning the ball over once, the Falcons were able to score the game's last seven points to get to the final 34-point margin.

Kittrell Withers was the lone Falcon in double figures scoring with 12.
