Boy’s School Project on Dad’s Overdose
#1
BURLINGTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A social studies fair at a local elementary school had a very grown up lesson for the kids.
It’s a hard, look long at drug addiction and one boy's journey to honor his dad and offer up his story to help others.
Steven Wagner’s school project is a little different from everyone else’s. Every one there did a project on something they learned.
Steven's is on something he knows. Steven's dad died of a drug overdose resulting in a 10 year boy growing up fast.
“I don't know, he started out with, I don't know. He started with heroin. He shot it. It was an addiction, bad," Steven said.
It's a project close to his heart. The lesson is that one drug addiction touches an entire family. He’s got brothers and sisters and a mom.
“He would have chose the crack cocaine over us all the time, but that doesn't mean he didn't love his kids. It’s just that powerful, and that's why you just don't do it," Steven’s mother said.
Steven is doing what he can. He’s a pint sized advocate that’s so adult one minute and so childlike the next.
