(7) Texas Tech 76 Iowa State 58
#1
LUBBOCK, Texas – A career-best night from Cameron Lard was not enough for Iowa State (12-11, 3-8 Big 12), as the Cyclones fell to No. 7 Texas Tech (20-4, 8-3 Big 12) 76-58 Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Arena.

The Cyclones missed the services of Lard in the first half, as he picked up two fouls in the first four minutes. However, he was virtually unstoppable in the second half, as he pushed his way to a career-high 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting. Of those 22 points, 16 came in the second half.

Joining Lard in double figures was Lindell Wigginton (13).

How It Happened
With only eight available plyaers Wednesay night, ISU could not afford foul trouble. Foul trouble found Iowa State instead, as Cameron Lard racked up a pair in the first four minutes of the contest. Despite the test of the Cyclone depth, ISU was able to hang on. The Cyclones erased an early six-point deficit to knot it at 19-19 on a Zoran Talley Jr. bucket.

The Cyclones' offense started to go cold, but the visitors were able to hang in there with Tech also struggling to find the basket. The insertion of Lard back into the contest in the final minutes of the first helped keep ISU in contention, as they were able to bring Texas Tech's 11-point lead down to seven at 39-32 at the half.

Lard's return continued to be crucial, as he scored eight of the Cyclones' first 12 points in the second half to cut TTU's lead down to one at 45-44. A 6-0 run put the Red Raiders back up eight, but the Cyclones were able to find Lard again for consecutive buckets to bring the deficit down to 55-51.

The Tech defense eventually got the stops it needed and began to pull away from ISU, taking the lead back to double figures in the final minutes of the contest. Lard fouled out with 3:50 to go and the Cyclones down 11.
