Campbellsville, KY – The 21st-ranked UC men's basketball team return to the court Saturday as they travel to face Campbellsville, but it was the Tigers who pull away for the 71-53 win Saturday afternoon at the Powell Athletic Center. With the win the Tigers improve to 19-7 overall and 4-6 in conference play, while the Patriots move to 18-7 overall and 5-5 against the MSC.

Campbellsville got off to a quick start taking an early 6-0 lead before Chance Morton put the Patriots on the board with four straight points three minutes in. Taylor Gover and Kaashif English, twice, connected from behind-the-arc to give UC a 13-8 advantage with 13:13 remaining. The Tigers used a 9-1 run, over the span of five minutes to retake the lead. English drained his third three-pointer of the afternoon to even the score at 17 apiece. The two teams traded buckets and were even at 22-22, before Morton's layup put the Patriots back in front with 5:04 left in the first half. The game was saw two more ties at 26-26 and 29-29 but Campbellsville netted the final seven points of the half to take a 36-29 lead into the break.

The second half began similar to the first as Campbellsville scored nine unanswered points before a Morton layup cut the deficit back down to 14 points four minutes in. Bernard Samuel hit a three-pointer on UC's next possession to cut the deficit to 11, but that was the closest UC came as the Tigers used a 7-3 run to extend their lead to 52-34 with 14:03 remaining. Cumberlands continued to battle as Malik Colvin-Seldon and Travon Labranche combined for the next six points and a steal and layup by Gover brought the Patriots within 14 midway through the second half. The teams traded baskets over the next five minutes as the Tigers extended their lead to 67-49 with 5:25 left. Each team scored four points in the final minutes for the 71-53 final.

Leading the way for the Patriots was English, who netted a team-high 11 points and five rebounds. He also notched a perfect 3-3 from behind-the-arc. Labranche chipped in nine points, while Gover and Morton each finished with eight. Cumberlands went 11-13, shooting 84.6% from the charity stripe in the game.

The Patriots return to the court Thursday, February 15, when they travel to Columbia, KY to take on fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. and live video is available here, while live stats are available here.
