CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The NC State men's basketball team could not make it three straight wins over ranked opponents Sunday evening as third-ranked Virginia knocked off the Pack, 68-51 inside John Paul Jones Arena.

With the loss, NC State falls to 12-6, 2-3 in the ACC, while Virginia improves to 16-1, 5-0 in the ACC.

NC State finished the game with a 40-22 points in the paint advantage and 14-5 second chance points advantage, but Virginia shot 56.1 percent from the field, including a 57.1 percent mark from three-point range to negate the Pack's advantage down low.

The Pack shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the first half which allowed the Cavaliers to build a 16-point advantage, 28-12, with 4:43 remaining in the opening 20 minutes. NC State closed strong though, holding UVA to just two points in the final 4:43 to close within 30-20 at the half.

Virginia opened the second half by scoring the first seven points to push the lead to 17. NC State responded with the next six to cut the deficit to 11, but could get no closer as the Cavaliers shot 59.1 percent in the second half to hold off any attempt by the Pack for a comeback.

Torin Dorn led the Pack with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Dorn scored 14 of his team-high 16 in the second half. The 16 points tie for the most points for Dorn in an ACC contest.

Lavar Batts, Jr., added a career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and Lennard Freeman also chipped in nine points and six rebounds off-the-bench. Markell Johnson seeing his first action in over a month had a team-high five assists and added two steals and a blocked shot.

UVA was led by Devon Hall who scored a career-high 25 points, Kyle Guy added 17 and Isaiah Wilkins had 10 points.

NC State forced Virginia into a season-high 15 turnovers in the loss.

The Pack returns to action Thursday evening at PNC Arena when it hosts Wake Forest.

UVA playing best ball in ACC

UVA is the team to beat right now. They always have smothering defense. I didn't get to watch this one. How did Beverley do for NC State? He looks like he is having a good year from what I had seen so far.
