Can we PLEASE talk about how wonderful Duke is now?
#1
I don't know what it is about some of you people on here. If it makes you
feel more intelligent to be as sycophantic toward Duke as the national
press or what. But, as some of us CLEARLY pointed out. Duke is NOT a
top 10 team. And they had NOT played a "tough" schedule heretofore.

Before tonight they had played ONE better than decent team Kansas,
who actually outplayed them, but due to the standard protection of
Duke, left themselves in a position to throw a game away that they had
won. Now they HAVE played a really good team, and they got REAMED.

This Duke team is a borderline top 20 team. A team that plays hard, and
has some basketball IQ, but doesn't have the horses to play with top 10 teams.

What people? I hope Duke loses every game from now until the end of time.

Waiting for this...Butler didn't have those horses, did it?

I'm not going to take basketball advice from someone who thinks there is a national conspiracy against Kentucky.

I do too, I'm assuming he's talking to me. If anyone of you on here know me, you know that I hate Duke and our other traditional rivals more than most...but when it comes to schedule, they had earned their top 5 ranking, easily. Until tonight of course.

Talking to DSR is like trying to teach your grandpa to fish...he doesn't want to hear any of it.

since you haven't been a member for more than a month...
I'll let this slide.

But believe me...
if you take the time to read the basketball forums you will understand that the Dukies are few and far in between.
My avatar is up only to piss people off lol
However, I respect the program at Duke and I believe Coach K is the best coach in the country.
Do I think Duke is the best team in the country after tonight? No
Do I think Duke is top 5? Nope
Do I think Duke is top 10? Probably
Do I think they are a borderline top 20 team? I don't think anyone with sense on here would say that. I wouldn't think anyone who keeps up with college basketball(meaning not just one team) would say that.

Here are your borderline top 20 teams right now.
19. Gonzaga
20. Vandy
21. Miss. State
22. Memphis

Duke would wipe the floor with all of them...
except for Gonzaga Smile
#8
There still a top 5 team.
Im afraid Ohio State may be that good.
#9
Vandy is playing without one of there best players. And if it was DUke, UK, UNC or Ohio State thats all u would hear about. They are alot better than what they seem.

It's got nothing to do with liking or disliking, loving or hating.
It's simple OBSERVATION OF REALITY. I hate Carolina as
much or more than I hate Duke. But I'll give them their due.
They ARE the second best team in the land. Duke is NOT a
top 10 team this year. And all this silliness of projecting them
as such, must come form some insecurity that causes one
to seek approval from the group, however mindless the group
may be behaving.

What did Ohio State show last night, that would elad you to think
they can play with UK or UNC when either is clicking( I concede
that if either were not playing well OSU could knock them off)

This is just more Duke sycophancy. "Oh oh, Duke is wonderful,
if someone beat them the must be the best in all the lands"

Try LOOKING at what transpires on the floor. A good team
handed a so-so team a whipping. But they don't have the horses
to match up with UK or UNC.

So you saw NOTHING special on the floor by OSU! That's laughable! Sullinger and Buford looked like a couple of scrums!:HitWall:

This wasn't an easy game for Duke and it wouldn't of been an easy game for any team. Playing a team as good as Ohio State at there house Is a tall task. I figured they would lose but I didn't think they would get smacked like that but it happens. Duke is still a top 10 team in my opinion and they will be hard to beat come tournament time on a neutral floor.
#14
You know what?
I've come to my senses.

The refs screwed Duke over in this one.
Sullinger should have fouled out in the first half.
Mason Plumlee never committed a single foul but he had 10 called on him it seems like.
After this game it is safe to say that OSU is the #2 team in the nation but Duke is really #1.
If they would've played this game anywhere but OSU the Blue Devils would have ran them out of town.
UK is a borderline top 20 team.
Before tonight they had played ONE better than decent team Kansas,
who actually outplayed them, but due to the UK not being able to do anything wrong, they still won the game.
Wait....
nvm....
UK still hasn't played anyone better than Kansas.

Sorry, but yesterday in diuscussions, I had a few people
express both their undying hatred of Duke, yet their firm assertion
that they were righfully a top 5 team.

As I tried to explain in another post on this thread, PERSONALLY
none of my posts on the subject were related in any way to
my dislike of Duke. I freely admit to hating their program.
but when they actually ARE as good as their incessant hype,
I DO acknowledge it. But based upon ON COURT performance
this season so far(and without any hypothetical suppostion
on what they might do against their "beastly" schedule yet
to come) there's just NO basis for making the case for
them as a top 10 team.

And when they played a REAL top 10 team last night,
they got smacked around. Right now it's difficult to
see them beating any top 10 teams on neutral floors.
They'll be competitive with most top 11-20 teams
because they're disciplined and won't stop playing hard.
But most of those teams would likely beat them with
a focused effort. And anyone who REALLY keeps up with more
than one team, and WATCHES come other games, not
just catch ESPN's hype machine highlights of Duke
should fairly easily SEE THIS.

Excuse me, but where did I imply that they were not good players, or that
OSU was not a good team? I said I saw nothing to show me that
they were better than UNC or UK. Did YOU? I'd say the Buckeyes
ARE a solid top 5 team. I wouldn't expect them to beat either
UNC or UK on a neutral floor.

I'm not going to take basketball advice from someone who thinks there is a national conspiracy against Kentucky.

Confusederiously:

Try and not be so dimwitted. No one's talking tin foil hat
conspiracies, but it takes some WILLFUL blindness to
fail to see the bias that exists against UK in the national
press.

But in any event, that has nothing to do with Duke being
so overrated this year. Coach K is a VERY good coach.
But this Duke team doesn't have the horse to compete
with top 10 teams this season, and has a BIG problem
in Austin Rivers who so far is doing a lot of things to
HURT his team along with helping them.

Lastly, it might behoove you to take some advice
from someone who pays attention to what's going
on on the court, not just to what Dickie V or somebody
is saying. If you did, you wouldn't have been suprised
by Duke's buttwhopping last night.

Earned it HOW? By having a maybe #15 Kansas throw one away to
them? Or maybe you see something in the UT Vols that I'm missing?
Or staving off the MIGHTY Belmont Bruins by one point at home
showed how good Duke was? And of course who WOULDN'T be
impressed by a pair of wins over Davidson and Presbyterian?
COME ONE DUDE, Duke was riding on REPUTATION, and
hadn't come close to demonstrating any top 5 potential
on the court. And they were DISMANTLED last night when
they played a REAL top 5 team.

I agree with most of what you said. If this game were at Duke the game would have been completely different! I also think Vandy and Memphis will be top 10 by the end of the season. I really like Vandy and there team

Duke also played Michigan.

They didn't get dismantled, they got destroyed. I am glad they lost too..I've enjoyed making fun of Duke fans at work and on FB all day.

My problem with you was how you talked about everyone besides us, UK fans, having some sort of an agenda against us to keep us out of the spotlight..AND how you talked about Duke's schedule so far like itwas nothing, when in fact it's ranked higher than any other top 10 team in the country besides Kansas.

It can be ranked whatever, that doesn't make it so. And I think it's
rather the reverse, people were talking about Duke's schedule
like it was filled with NBA all star teams, when in fact it
had nothing but teams that were very pedestrian prior to
Ohio State(with the exceotion of Kansas) Whatever
teams they may have yet to play, prior to last night that had not
played at a level that wold suggest top 5 status, and cold
NOT alibi that away by trying to portray it as killer competition.

And son, if you can't see that there is a tremendous bias
against UK in the media, you've got your eyes glued shut.
I'm not suggesting anyone is trying to keep them out of
spotlight, that's not possible. But they DO, and WILL,
portray UK as negatively as possible every time. And
it's only been compounded since Calipari became our
coach. And the opposite most certainly IS true of
Duke. ESPN is basically their in-house marketing team.

There is a reason some UK fans give the fan base in general a bad name. You can sit and talk all you want about Duke and its schedule and how Kansas threw a game away, and discredit any other team they played.....All teams can have an off game, as displayed by UK's 62-52 win over ODU.
#23
Duke offensively is a top 5 team, but been telling all my friends that when they faced an athletic and fast team, they would get beat 20+. Ohio State is athletic enough to guard Duke and challenge the 3 pointer, plus Duke defensively is a very slow footed team. Ohio State could get to the rim or penitrate and kick all night long. UK would beat Duke every bit as bad if not worse

Andy Katz says UNC should leap frog into 3rd based on the strenght of
a loss to UK. Might be a stretch, but it's certainly no stretch to see
they are miles beyond Duke.
