Good night for the improving Pirate offense. Still lots of mental errors and catastrophic errors in special teams and execution, but all in all a very nice win.

Stardust Wrote:like what?On LCC's first drive Belfry had Johnson for a sack 3 different times and could not finish him, he then broke contain to pick up first downs. he ultimately ended the drive by doing this again for the TD.
First half, Belfry had a 2nd and Goal from the 1 yard line and failed to convert on 2nd and 3rd down. On 4th a linemen false started resulting in the ball moving to the 6, belfry came away empty handed
After Belfry took a 23-7 lead and asserted control of the game they gave up a 92 yard kickoff return for TD where the LCC player broke 4 or 5 tackles and reversed field.
Belfry also gave up another kickoff return to Logan Johson that he took all the way inside the Pirate 20 that set up another LCC TD to pull them within 3.
Leading 23-20 Belfry lost 24 yards on a bad pitch on a running play, they were able to overcome this with a big run on the next play, but in the playoffs that could have been a game changer.

I will say this about Belfry... you will be hard pressed to find another team more game tested against a spread offense by season's end. Every team Belfry has played ran their own variation of the spread and with Pike Central and East Ridge remaining it will look like this by seasons end:
P'burg- Jet Sweep and Short timing route based
Cov. Holy Cross- Zone Read Based, pass heavy
Ashland- Zone read based with very good QB and RB, balanced offense
LCC- Zone read based, run heavy particularly the QB
East Ridge- Wide Spread, pass heavy
Pike Central- Run based spread, sweep heavy

The little things kept the game close tonight and it almost cost them. If you take away the big mistakes then the score could have been quite different. LCC made alot of mistakes as well. Things really fell apart for them in the fourth. This game was taken by the team who has been improving the most. Belfry is the most improved team in the mountains after starting out with a tough loss. The staff has done an exceptional job in my personal opinion. LCC's run defense and play calling are two very gloom areas right now.

congrats to the Pirates

Other notes:
- Willis and Robinson each had huge games with big time runs. Willis has really added a new dimension to Belfry since he returned, Robinson is very patient and saw alot of success off the option by waiting for his blocks.
-All in all Belfry's defense played better then it appears. They only allowed around 190 total yards. The first drive of the game resulted in nearly 80 yards of rushing offense, where as I mentioned, Belfry had numerous opportunities to tackle Johnson for a loss and let him slip away. The Cougars had some success late on a drive and had a 20 yard touchdown pass as well. Aside from those two drives and that pass, LCC maybe had 50 total yards.
-Belfry had over 325 rushing yards...LCC fans have been livid about run defense and Belfry consistently gashed them all night both up the middle and outside.
- LCC never had time to pass against Belfry as the Pirates consistently pressured Johnson and beat their OL off the ball. For as much heat as the run defense has taken, this has to be just as legitimate of a concern. With the game still within reach down by 10 late, Belfry sandwiched Jonson between 3 defenders to force the fumble that drove the nail into the coffin.
Johnson is a big time talent, with a big time arm, but he olnly had 7 or 8 pass atempts late in the game against a defense that had been absolutely dominated by passing teams thusfar.
- I have spoke every week about the timing of Belfry's backs lining up with the growth of the O-line. Belfry had no homerun potential against Pburg and it has steadily improved every week, tonight Belfry was able to open big play after big play. If the Pirates can eliminate the procedure penalties and the dropped/bad pitches, they will just get more and more dangerous.

LCC woes continue. Congrats Belfry.

Very good win for this young Belfry team. I have to say our special teams has ALOT of work to do to improve. But offensively, Letcher barely stopped us. Or defense needs to learn how to wrap up and bring down, not let the offense just bounce off us and keep going. Belfry will be very good by the end of the season. I wouldn't underestimate this team at all. Going into this season we all knew this would be a rebuilding year for Belfry and some teams are licking their chops to get a shot at Belfry while their down, indeed it may happen and enjoy it. I really see this team doing some good things the next few years.
Great win Pirates! keep it up and just keep getting better each week fellas!

Belfry is down for their standards, but this is a solid victory. Belfry is gonna be dangerous in a couple of years. PC, better get them at their low and your high.

The scary thing is 4 weeks is a looooooong time to give this young Pirate team to improve before PC even gets their shot. Belfry is a completely different team already since 4 weeks ago, imagine the progress by doubling that time frame.
PC has Knott Central and a sub-par Tolsia, WV before they play Belfry.Belfry has 5A Whitley County and Pikeville to play. It is conceivable that all 6 of Belfry opponent's would be the "best" team PC faced on their schedule by the time they meet. This is an indisputable advantage to Belfry that cannot be ignored.
Also, noone has mentioned the impact of Pike Central's 9 game schedule. It is a legitimate concern that Belfry/PCC/Sheldon Clark may have a 3 way split of the regular season, if it comes down to tie-breaker points to determine who gets the 1 seed this will put PCC at a major disadvantage.

East Ridge no longer runs the PC Spread. Just thought you would like to know.

Good win for Belfry, problems continue for LCC.
Im still suprised to see LCC struggling this much after the preseason hype, they could end up missing the playoffs all together.

Saw the Pirates against Ashland (Ashland alum here). Be careful what you wish for there Pike Central. Belfry historically gets stronger throughout the season and they're so young, if you don't get them this year, you probably won't for the next 3-4.

We play Whitley County next, apparantley Pike Central doesn't worry about games besides when they play us?
Awesome win. Trey, Gary, Josh, Jeffree, Tyler, you name 'em and they did good. One thing we need to work on, solid tackling. It will come. I love the progression of this team.
