Border Bowl
#1
How many realized that there is a required $300 fee if selected to play for this event. That is a lot of money. I bet some won't be able to participate due to this expense.

After looking at the borderbowl website and reading about how they "treat these boys like all stars" I'm disappointed that there is a $300.00 charge for this. Instead of "giving" them all these items, why not scale back and reduce the required fee.

I agree. I understand that they probably have expenses but I think $75 fee is more appropriate. Then, if the players want to purchase a ring, let them decide to pay the rest. It is a little deceiving because you don't realize there is a fee until you get the letter saying you've been selected. In today's economy $300 is quite a chunk of change.

I don't think anyone will agree with that fee cost, but kids are still going to want to play in this honorable game and they will still find a way to get that $300.

Most kids get sponsors for the $300. Schools that have solid boosters can pay for this as well. I feel like if a kid has given you all his time and effort for four years what is $300 from the boosters. I would bet that player made more than $300 for that school gate receipts.

300 is very, vert steep.

Have the rosters for both teams been realsed yet?

The selected players have been called and sent a packet stating the guidelines and revealing the deadline to get the fee and other information in as December 31st. Once they see who turns it all in I guess they will release the rosters. Not sure what they do if some players can't come up with the fee. Maybe there are alternates but then again, they would need to come up with the money as well. But, I bet the list will come out after Dec. 31st. I still feel like a more reasonable fee of $75 or so, would not be such a hardship and then the players could decide to purchase a ring if they wanted one at a later date.

I know Jordan Amis of Perry Central and Allan Fugate of Hazard are playing in this game.

Secretary of State's website says the bowl game's corporate charter was dissolved Nov. 9 for failing to file an annual report.

how do you get selected for the game?
#14
I think that they have to be academically qualified to go to college which includes your ACT and GPA. It is a game to showcase players for college scouts. Also, as said earlier, the coach nominates the players and a board selects them.

You are nominated by your High School Coach. I am not sure you have to have an ACT on file yet. There are usually NAIA and Division III coaches in attendance. Some players nominated choose not to play because they already have college offers and do not want to risk injury.

300 is a lot of money and I would not be surprised if some one tries to get this lowered I always thought this was a free game that a well deserved young man and athlete gets rewarded for playing at the best of his abilities.
