Well, if this is indeed accurate, it looks like he certainly was interested in Brian Kelly.

I think this works out well for Austin's family as well. ND is still a few hours drive, which makes it easily accessible for at least half his games.

travel is no problem for this family. they put up a ton of frequent flier miles just to get family to his high school games. His dad was flying in and out of town ever friday, his sister flying in from Florida for his games, and mom flies to Florida ever other week to visit daughter. I do not think travel had any thing at all to do with his decision. It has been a tough time for ND fans, let's hope AC and BK can help change this.

Sad to see him go to a schol where he will never win a BCS bowl game but good to see he is gone to a school where he will get a great education.

No, I knew the current challenges they had but at least it was getting everyone home for a game. Now no one will be doing anything at home. It's a lot easier getting to ND logistically than if he had gone to Vandy or somewhere out East.

Austin Collinsworth, who for the last three years has helped take a storied football program to unprecedented highs, will attempt to take part in the rebuilding of another storied program in college.

The Highlands all-state senior football player said Friday he has committed to Notre Dame.
Collinsworth, the son of former Bengals wide receiver Cris Collinsworth, made an unofficial visit to the school Thursday. He said Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, who contacted him just three days after being announced as the schoolâs coach, told him heâll probably play slot receiver for the Irish. Collinsworth also received a scholarship offer from Cincinnati, the program Kelly left last week.
Notre Dame hadnât offered Collinsworth a scholarship before Kelly arrived.
âI liked him,â said Collinsworth, who was wearing a Notre Dame headband as a spectator at Friday's Mason County at Highlands boyâs basketball game. âBut (UC) just wasnât the place for me.â
Collinsworth, who helped lead the Bluebirds to three straight Class 5A titles, was an all-state player at three different positions: defensive back, wide receiver and running back. During his three seasons with the varsity, Highlands lost just one game. The Bluebirds are ranked second in the current USA Today Super 25 national rankings.
Collinsworth (6-1, 196) moved to running back before this season and rushed for 1,502 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named the state finals MVP.
He had made one official visit, to Harvard, but also was considering Vanderbilt and Stanford. Before committing to Notre Dame, he was scheduled to visit Oregon this weekend.
âItâs definitely nice to have it over with,â Collinsworth said.
According to Highlands coach Dale Mueller, Collinsworth will be the first Highlands grad to play for the Irish.

Congrats to AC !!! I cant wait to see him in that green n gold.
Saw him at the Highlands basketball game last nigh leading the "O" Zone in cheers which was awesome. He is rocked up, had his shirt off, face painted and a white headband with the ND insignia on it. Channel 12 news got a closeup of him that I didnt catch but saw the camera guy down there working it.
