Betsy Laynes Carter Parsons leave for Pikeville
#1
Wow after spending 11 years there.
#2
Surely this is just a summer ball thing. Pikeville is crowded with guards.
#3
Isn’t his dad an administrator at the school? Interesting move here. He would be in the conversation for preseason region POY. Pikeville may start 5 guards next year
#4
Enrolled I reckon.

Don’t blame them. Floyd county cares zero about sports. Get out of Floyd county if you can. I tried to convince my son for 3 years to get out of this place but he stayed. Worst county in Kentucky.

Where would you have took your son to if you could have? JC, Paintsville, Pikeville? Martin County? I hear folks with kids all the time complaining about how poorly things are ran in Floyd County. When my son played sports Prestonsburg was one of the best football programs in the state

It’s no secret mine was more focused on baseball so when Coach Tucker took over we were committed to him. But IF we had a choice, Pikeville was choice number 1 for us with Knott County (our relationship with Huff for basketball and Damron for baseball) 2nd.

If this move is true that gives Pikeville an experienced quarterback. I’m sure the kid isn’t going to go for just Basketball.

I heard he wasn’t going to play football even if he did JJ Reynolds would’ve been the starter.

That is a fact. Reynolds on track to be a star. Was hoping Parsons would get a spot on the gridiron with his athletic ability.

Wonder after all this time, what happened.

Something must have went down.

Tony Gwynn
Barry Larkin
#12
I dont think this will happen when it comes down to it
#13
Local media source (leader in high school transfers) not reporting it. I’m doubting the truth of this.

I’m wondering the same thing.

Played 2 summer games with BL on Monday, then playing with Pikeville by the weekend.

Quite the turn of events. Why?

That local media source reported it initially, but it’s gone now. Hate to see him not in blue and white if this comes to fruition but if it does it’s gonna be hard to keep up with the Panthers this year as guard heavy as they are.

Can confirm this is true. Great move for Parsons. The Panthers will be criminally underrated next season. A lot of speed, defense, and shooting. Looking for them to back at Rupp next season.

So no matter what Reynolds is the guy? I remember hearing this when Boykins came. Boykins got quite a bit of the snaps. I just can’t see the kid not playing football or any other sport if he plays them while at Pikeville.

Reynolds is the guy, and when you see him play you'll know why.

Got to see Reynolds play QB in a JV game at Pburg in the middle of the season last year and I remember walking away from that game thinking that he was probably a top 3 or 4 mountain QB at the time, but he played behind a top 2 mountain QB on Fridays. Pikeville doesn't need Parsons to play QB. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if Parsons doesn't play football at all this year and instead stays in the gym 7 days a week getting ready for his final HS basketball season.

The sky is the limit for Reynolds. I am only responding to Parsons since someone said he already enrolled. I would love to see him play football if he is coming but wouldn't be a bit surprised if you are right and he stays in the gym. Basketball is right around the corner already too.

Best of luck to Carter in whatever he and his family decides to do.

Great kid!

Heard Betsy Layne has been struggling in Summer Ball without Parsons. However, if he had officially enrolled at Pikeville I think it would be posted publicly. Maybe he is just testing the waters.

How did the bobcats do today at JC? I think they played Letcher and Wayne?

if I’m not mistaken they lost with Parsons, although they didn’t have Allen.

They played SV and Wayne today without Parsons and Allen.

Who wouldn’t struggle without your starting backcourt at a small school lol

Lost by 10 to Wayne without Parsons, Allen and Mitchell. 3 starters. Not too shabby.

I do hear Carter enrolled at Pikeville. Not sure if he plays football next season but regardless JJ will be the starting QB. Parsons would be a great insurance policy and is a great athlete so he would likely start and play another position IF he decides to play. Focused on basketball first. Would help football but in all honesty, Pikeville needs linemen.

P-Burg, one of the best programs in the state??? How many state titles do they have again?

Arguably 1 in 1954, depending on who you ask. I still think Pburg should celebrate that season more than we do. A lot of media in the state at the time named that team state champions, even though some didn't. Google the name "Lowell Hughes" some time, if you're interested. Very interesting athlete from Pburg during that time. 1 of 6 athletes all-time to letter in 3 sports at UK. Became a lawyer and state senator and probably would've eventually became governor of the state but he decided to retire from politics and move to florida to operate a horse farm instead.

Since the controversial 1954 state title- 22 district titles, 10 regional titles, 2 state runner ups. pirateforlife is correct. A couple of those Pburg-Belfry playoff games were basically for state championships in the 3rd round in the early 2000's and pretty much everybody following both of those teams knew it. It was pretty crazy to have 3 of the 4 best teams in 2A in the same region between Belfry, Breathitt and Pburg those handful of years. Breathitt won it all in '02 and Belfry won it all in '03 & '04. Pburg beat Breathitt in '00, '01, '03, '04, and beat Belfry in '00 and '01. Breathitt beat Pburg in the playoffs in '02 on their way to the top and Belfry beat Pburg in '03 & '04 on their way. Considering this was pre-RPI playoff format, it made for some very exciting early playoff games those 5 years.
