No way Powell Co is top 5. they lost most of their scoring from last season plus Estill will have two of the best guards in region. they should cruise through this district

Wolfe won 20 games last season and won their district. And return 4 starters off of that team.
Powell lost all 5 starters on a team that didn't win the district.
How would they be ranked ahead of Wolfe County?

Estill's schedule is a step up from what it has been. Jackson County and Harlan County on back to back days....South Laurel, Western Hills, Montgomery County, Fleming, Pulaski County and Hazard to end the season. Plus Estill is participating in the KY Bank Challenge on back to back days, which includes; Madison Central, Rowan County, Floyd Central, GRC, Franklin County, North Laurel, Shelby Valley to name a few teams.

1. Knott
2. Perry
3. Estill
4. Wolfe
5. Hazard
6. Buckhorn
7. Letcher
8. Jackson City
9. Breathitt
10. Cordia
Estill and Wolfe will have to win 2 hard games in March at Perry Central to make it to Rupp. I say it comes down to Knott and Perry. Until someone can beat these two I stick with them. Hazard will be improved. But overall the 14th Region is weak.

Dark Horse Cordia, Rhodes gone but still a lot of talent. Don't go to sleep on this team. The new coach will work hard, last years coach not so much from what I heard over the summer.

Perry needs to develop a point guard a pressing team will expose Perry very fast just like Covington Scott did in march. Perry will have a shot at the Region because they play a good schedule and will be at home. the bench will be the factor for Perry will they have help off the bench? These Regional contenders need to play out in the state more. I know it hard to travel during school nights but on weekends I be playing in Bowling Green Louisville Lexington and Northern Ky or have some of those teams come to my place. Eastern KY Basketball Football outside of a few teams are not very competitive against the rest of the state. Population and Work has drove a lot of folks out of the mountains

Did Letcher really drop off that much? Seems like everyone has them somewhere between 7-10 in their rankings and most of them are closer to 10th
08-25-2017, 06:26 PM
Letcher lost three starters, I think, and the top player in the region.
08-25-2017, 07:41 PM
LCC will surprise by the end of the year.

Lost 3 very good players and a great coach.

Perry and letcher both will be rebuilding, neither will be in the hunt for the region. Knott definitely a big favorite
09-03-2017, 05:26 PM
1.Knott 2.Cordia. 3.Pcc. 4.Estill. 5.Wolfe. 6.Hazard. 7.Jackson City. 8.Letcher 9.Leslie Co. 10.Powell Co. I think everyone thought most of Cordia's players left. That is false! They have the best talent in the region, by far. It's hard for the coach , who has never coached a high school game, but he has the talent. PCC will start 4 seniors and will be very big and they will contend for the title. Knott is the team to beat hands down with veteran talent and lots of young talent. And yes Denny Fugate will have Jackson City playing competitive basketball.

Cordia's has a good coach Jerry is putting in the Time and effort what it takes to win all the kids seem to like him. You are right they have a lot of talent returning from last year they only had 1 senior they will be big and athletic.
09-05-2017, 03:31 AM
Buford I'm sure Jerry is a fine coach. I was just stating that it's difficult in your first year.

How is he putting in time and effort now? Isn't it against the rules to be practicing before Oct. 15th!

He didn't say he was practicing. Everyone should be working out/conditioning at this point.
Who ends up starting for Cordia? I'm not sure who stayed.

1.Knott (definitely favorite)
2. Estill (bring back a lot of talent)
3. Wolfe (bring back a lot of talent)
4. Cordia (really got a lot coming back)
5. Perry (Big school, always competative)
No one else can compete with these 5, all others lost way to much or just hardly never have the talent to compete with the big schools.
