It's been talked about on other boards, and I was asked about it by a Grundy fan Sunday, but now it's in the papers, so there's something to it.
Seems that Matewan played a kid who might be ineligible.
The Charleston Gazette apparently got the run-around on whether or not forfeits are involved ( http://www.wvgazette.com/section/Sports/2006091828 ).
The KHSAA still has SV at 3-1, and the just-released this morning WVSSAC ratings (which are done on Sundays) have Matewan 4-0.
So it looks like Matewan can continue to "no comment" for a week before the WVSSAC ratings tell the story.

Well Matewan should be 3-1 because Valley kick there butt

Until the KHSAA website or WV high school organization make the games a forfeiture, Matewan gets the W. I do wonder what the heart of this speculation is though.

oh Matewan, I got them confused with Midland Trail, I dont no if Matewan forfeited to SV, but I listen to it on the Radio and it didnt say anything about them Forfeitin

Matewan is the one team to beat SV this year. I'd hate to see this game get excluded for the young kid who broke the WV State Rushing record in that game, of course unless he was the ineligible player.
09-19-2006, 06:00 PM
NO.. I know this for a fact he is NOT the one who is ineligible... it is another player who transfered from Belfry. I know McCoy's parents... he is legit!!!!
09-19-2006, 06:01 PM
Matewan has appealed the decision and is awaiting a final ruling.
09-19-2006, 06:09 PM
So they think Matewan forfeited, if so will this go to a win for Valley and take back the lost

He (McCoy) is not the player in question...

What was his final stat line in that game?

Not sure about carries or TDs, but I'm pretty sure it was 537 yards rushing.

I've had a request in with a WV'ian to let me know when McCoy's numbers for that game were verified - haven't heard back from him yet.
Don't know if this is a VA rule or national rule, but when we have a "procedural/paper" forfeit, all game stats count.

This is a post that Pauls dad left on another website that I am a mod on... thought this might give everyone some insight on the SV game....
"My son Paul Keegan McCoy#22 NATIONAL ALL TIME! RUSHING RECORD 1ST GAME OF SEASON SCORED 537 YD'S IN ONE GAME,6 TD'S,PLUS 2 THAT WERE CALLED BACK AGAINST SHELBY VALLEY"

the ineligable player in question from what I've been told is Matewans Epling, not sure what number he wears. He is too old by West Virginia rules to be playing, ***EDIT--slanderous remark removed*** I say take all thier victories WVSSAC but let the Mccoy kid keep his stats. It would be a shame to take something from a kid that was a coaching (ahem) "error"

Garrett Epling is the player in question. He's #3 on Matewan. I went and watched them play this weekend and he was on the sidelines. He didn't play. From what I've heard, it is being investigated. I've heard they may have to forfeit their first three games...but I don't think it'll happen.

Gerrett's Mom NO HE IS NOT TO OLD HE IS 17 YEARS OLD. AND THE LAST TIME I CHECKED 19 IS THE AGE LIMIT. RIGHT NOW IT IS A INVESTIGATION ON THE 8 SEMESTOR RULE. FURTHER MORE IT IS A SHAME THAT A 17 YEAR OLD BOY WHO JUST WANTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL AND GO TO SCHOOL TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH. THIS KID'S BIOLOGICAL MOTHER WAS KILLED LAST YEAR AND DIDN'T FIND HER BODY FOR MONTH'S IS ENOUGH. I KNOW :"IF" HE HAS VIOLATED THE RULES HE WILL BE PUNISHED. IF NOT WHAT A SHAME FOR THIS YOUNG KID TO LOSE HIS SR YEAR OF FOOTBALL BECAUSE OF PETTINESS FOR MATEWAN BEATING ANOTHER SCHOOL 66-16. I'VE SAID MY 2cents worth and pray no one else ever has to go through what this kid has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everything works out for this Kid. Jealousy can cause a lot of people to do and say really mean things.
09-20-2006, 03:42 PM
Valley is now 4-0
09-20-2006, 03:45 PM
Matewan did forfeit...they had to forfeit all of their games that they had played so far.

So they forfeited all the remaing games they have
09-20-2006, 03:53 PM
No... the Epling boy can't play so there won't be a question on any remaining games... He is the only one in question.... don't know what is going on there for sure...

Well I just hope that the boy wont be able to play any more but not to forfeit all the remaining games. But I wish Matewan the best of luck

RB#2 Wrote:Matewan did forfeit...they had to forfeit all of their games that they had played so far.No, they did not.
They had to forfeit all games in which the player(Epling)played.
Therefore, they forfeited the first three games, not their win over Man.
