SF 72
PIKEVILLE 68
To sum it up, SF won this one like all the others, at the line. Can they take this same kind of game to Richmond and get past the first round? We'll see.
It was a close game. The Raiders led by as much as 10, Pikeville by as much as 4, and was tied 6 times. Pikeville made several shooting mistakes, mostly with Parish shooting from behind the arc in the last 2 min. Wells was hot from behind the arc. South Floyd pulled out the win with their free throw shooting and didn't miss a freethrow until the last of the 4th. Stanley and Little did what they do best, draw the fouls and shoot the ft's.
Congrats to the RAIDERS!

Both teams played very hard to very end and it was close till the end. But at the end of the game South Floyd showed very little class.
But....good luck at state Raiders

Congrats SF!!!
The Raiders did what it took to win...hit 19 of 21 from the line...and took care of the ball.
I was terribly disappointed by some things I saw at the end of the game...taunting by two Raiders(one drew a technical) with the game still undecided and a bird flying from one player who played a great game but really showed no class in his actions toward the Pikeville fan section.
Come on guys...You are a good team, Act like it!!

Ok...back to reality now.....the Panthers had their seniors really step up and play well tonight! IMO Pikeville had pretty good control down low unlike many predicted...I mean they had 41 points coming from post players! The Panthers seem to be pulling it together now and working better as a team....the Freshman Honaker Twins are really adding life to this team and I think they are helping everyone....Just with their raw athleticism and speed......
I agree with the little class....I mena as it was mentioned earier #10 was talking shit towards the end of the game and got the technical like he should have and then a player flipping off the pikeville section. But the one that I think was NO class was when the big man got fouled on a rebound and while he was walking down the court turned to the Pikeville section and held out both sides of his jersey to make sure everyone could read it ....I mean this might not have been that bad had he done it at the other end of the floor but he was in front of all the parents and adults...not anywhere near the Sutdent section..
But I will give this to SF...they can hit it from the line!! They only missed two and those were both pointless FTs at the end of the game.
Seems to me like Pikeville's season has changed for the better!!!

Both of these teams have improved and still improving.........
The biggest win in this entire tournament was 10 points right? This shows how evenly matched this region really is! Anyone can win it!
Good luck at state SF!

Why would he do it in front of the parents, they wasnt the ones yelling shit down on to the floor about them....
What the hell do you expect from the to stand there and let them talk shit to them, pushing them down after plays were over...No Class your crazy..Pikeville was lucky to be even in this game....Everytime SF went on a run Pikeville was belled out by the Ref's...Now I see how you got to the finals...Parrish lived in the middle tonight and they warned him 5 times, instead of calling it.

Not going to get into the class thing did not see a bird flying. The big man did what every kid or college kid would do and so would you, you would have showed that #40 off nicely if the decision went the other way.
#10 should have never gotten a T for clapping after all #2 from Pikeville said and did to him all night. Before pointing fingures find out what really went on. (guess someone is blowing kissing in the wind now or maybe want to rethink the things he said and did to #10 since the Raiders won).
Both teams gave 110% on the court and I really enjoyed watching this game, the Refs did not do a great job but good enough. just 3 fts difference between the teams. Just hate to see people instead of congratulation kids on both teams they get on here and try to get something started on these kids. If you are not on the floor you have no right to talk about individuals if you do not have the whole story.
Pikeville is a very good team with some good players and will be hard to handle down the strech and good luck the rest of this year. As for the Raiders keep listening to coach Hall and GOOD LUCK in Richmond!

Disappointed that some feel SF has no class Every thing can't be seen from the seats and pep sections. Pikeville player( The fr. Guard ) started the situations from the start by blowing kisses at SF players. I don't know what that is called for in other parts but from where I live it's not generally done. Thats the first time I had seen that behavior. The technical at the end was started when the little guard from Pikeville again blowed a kiss to a player that had just been fouled. The #10 from SF then taunted him back by acting on emotion and not thinking. He was the one that got caught by Walker and given the technical. One ref was told early about what the Pikeville guard was doing. I don't agree with either player acting in this manner but didn't think that Pikeville was considered as being with little class because of their player acting on his own. I think the deal with the taunting of the parents or any visiting fan would probably be looked into and would not happen again. Pikeville team overall has good kids and the same for South Floyd. If a bird was flying that should be dealt with also. Young players act a bit inmature sometimes and let their emotions cloud their judgement. I apologise for our big man and for what our young guard did. They are not taught to do that I am sure. They evidently talk during the game as they are also talked back at. Attitudes reflect leadership and this comes back to the coach. Great game and I believe both teams will be heard from down the road. Good luck Raiders for a great tournament and enjoy the week in Richmond. You earned it.

Congrats to the Raiders on this one...I have to agree end of the 3rd and throughout the 4th I was nervous. It was a close game throughout but the team that deserved it got it in the end and that's all that matters. Good luck guys! I'll be there cheering for you in Richmond!

Yeah...I thought that the T was uncalled for also.....but he must have said something that the refs overheard....
And I don't think that Shurtleff would be showing off his jersey to the SF side...maybe the Pikeville side but that's it....I know if he did his dad would be whipping his ass!!

Congrats Raiders & Coach Hall GREAT WIN GUYS!!!! Wyatt hit the nail on the head, I was in the stands & saw the taunting going on from both teams at times #10 just happen to get caught. No way that anyone can say only the South Floyd players did it!!! If you do you must have not been looking when Panther players did it or you just didn't want to see it!!
01-30-2005, 03:06 AM
First I want to say that things were going on the court by both teams not just one which would mean no class for P-ville as well. The next thing is this stuff had nothing to do with the outcome of this game. I would like to say congrats to coach Hall and his team on an outstanding tourney. This is not the same team that people have seen earlier in this season. For P-ville I was impressed with what they did should be dangerous later in the season. Bottom line is GOOD LUCK RAIDERS, Left Beaver is behind you all the way to the class A.

You guys are alright Beef and I like the way the section stays together and yells. Good atmosphere tonight. I met a parent from Pikeville that knows my cousin over there and the gentleman, His Wife and Son that plays in the middle for the Panthers were extremely nice after the game. That meant alot to me.

First off svcatfan, Pikeville got there by play very good basketball and beating a couple of good teams and very much deserved to be in the Finals and played an outstanding game tonight.
Second Beef sounds like sour grapes to me. Both teams acted in a manner at times that were not that of champions but if you look at it all but one incident involved freshman and sophomores from both teams. Winning/Losing with pride and respect will come in time after some lessons from the coaches. The big man showed his jersey name at half court turning to the pep section so not sure what you meant by in front of parents.
Shertleff, Parish and Walls played great games. I agree Parish was allowed to camp in the lane but he was getting away with it and can't blame if for doing it. I thought at times the Honaker kid #2 hurt PHS as his shot selection was bad, shooting 2 airballs from 3 a crucial points of the game, but he is a freshman.
Both teams fought hard and SF just played a little better. Both teams shot FT well, just SF found a way to win. Thought R. Johnson played great and hit big free throws again tonight and Stanley really got the Raiders going tonight. Wes Hall played tonight like he is capable of and what a lift he was to his team. Looks like both teams are starting to get it together and look for both to make a lot of noise the rest of the way. Good luck to the Panthers and Raiders. SF keep it up in All A.
Just something I notice toward the end of the game when both teams were calling Tos, Pikeville band kept playing a song that the SF fans had a cheer to and the song got them up and they were very loud and sure it help SF players and PHS players had to be effected as the benches were on the SF fan side of the floor. The only time the PHS entire crowd got up was for the school song, thought band director and members should have noticed and not played the song that got SF fans involved. Play your school song.
