Clay County 2011
#1
They only lost 2 seniors. How good will they be this year?
#2
They have a great chance to make it back to applebees. Clay will be tough this year!

Clay is a realistic top 15, possibly top 10, team in the state. They are probably 4 deep on the hill. (5 if Wilson pitches) Talent wise losing the 2 seniors doesn't hurt at all. They is a very good sophomore IF to fill in at 2nd, and a surprise player coming back to fill in the OF spot. They are in a tough district with a good North Laurel team and an improving Jackson County team, but I think talent and experience carries them back to Applebees!

who is the suprise player comin back?

I would love to see the kids over at Clay get a respectable field to play on. They have two of the nicest facilities around in basketball and football but their baseball has been better than both over the last couple of years.

Does the big Gilbert kid still play? I remember him crushing a ball at SL a few years back.

Tanner Gilbert I think?

Gilbert would be correct. He hit like 8 homers as a freshman. The game winner in the regional semi aganist South. What am I getting carried away about? That they are a top 15 team? Potentially top 10? That they will have a dog fight in their district? The three team district is insanely tough. Especially if they play a DH like they did last year. They have to be MUCH more consistent to be ranked that high. At times last year they were flat out awful, other times they were extremely good. Here is something to think about. Harrison County scored all 8 or their runs with 2 outs in an inning. Both times it happened with 2 outs, with multiple errors being made earlier in the inning. If Clay just makes a few more plays that game is real fun. But you can't play the if game. It didn't happen so Clay has to improve and get better and not make those same mistakes.

I agree with the tough district aspect. Im saying dont get carried away on the top 10 in the state.

I think they are top 15 in the state. They are deep on the hill. A very good hitting lineup. A middle of the order with Wilson-Gilbert-Griffin-Hensley is solid. Then you have Young and Corum at the top. To prove they are this good they have to be more consistent though. They can't lay down aganist teams like Williamsburg like they have in the past. They gave Tates Creek a heck of a game at TC last year and beat a very good George Rogers Clark team last year. Top 10 could be a stretch, but that's why I said potentially.
