1995....Belfry @ Leslie Co.
Score - Leslie 28 - Belfry 20........Belfry lead 20-8 at one point during the game. But the Tim Couch led Eagles came back and won the game. Adam Eastwood of Belfry rushed 18 times for 210 yards & 2 TDs to lead the Pirates.
Regional Chamionship game, but the draw was this. During the 2nd quarter Tim Couch became the National High School All-Time Passing yardage leader, eclipsing the mark set by Shreveport, LA's Josh Booty.
The game was played several times on ESPN Classic so that I could agonize over the defeat repeatedly.:HitWall:
Belfry had the #1 run D in the state that year, a QB who passed for over 1,000 yards, three RBs who had approximately 1,000 yards each, and a very average pass defense.
Leslie Co. wasn't just all Tim Couch either. A few names I remember are the late Scott Brock, Paul Meton, Ricky Hensley, and two or three lineman that could flat out play the game.
To make a long story short, the game was awesome. I wish we had came away with the W, but life goes on. I have the game on tape & DVD and it is one of my prize possessions. This year is the 10 year reunion of the players on that football team and I guarantee when the reunion festivities roll around talk will shift to that game at one point & time.
But for now, the 2005 Pirates need to take care of business and shut up all this nonsense about SC being able to steal the win from the Pirates. Show'em who the dominant team in AA football is, show'em who the dominant team in Region 4 District 8 is, and show'em who brings the pain @ CAM Stadium!!!!!!

Hey Happy, could you make me a copy of that game on DVD. You know me. You made some for me and my dad last year when we were on the other site. Believe it or not, I have never seen that game.

Why broadcast this game? Answer: STORY LINES
1. David vs. Goliath- the two time defending state champions who have alreadyd estroyed the team they are playing...SC comes into this as a Cinderella team...with 2A being down if SC wins they have a legit shot at Lousivlle and maybe even a state title.
2. Bloodlines- Its teacher vs. pupil on the sidelines as Haywood and Hager duel off. Haywood is the stonewalled, tenrued, respected coach...Hager is the eccentric, young, motivated coach emerging from the shdows of another Belfry alum Matney.
3. History- We all remember the epoch battle the alst time these teams met in the postseason and this game mirrors that one. Spradlin,,, crosses the goalline,,, controversy ensues,,,, Belfry loses at home.
4. Facilities- If you are going to highlight a football game you might as well do it at the nicest stadium in East KY....

Its being broadcast also because Sheldon Clark is the team no one said would get this far, and plus if sheldon clark wins there coming to martin county to do wymt sports over time.

Anybody know if WYMT is picked up in Russell? Just a little curious because this could be a nice little advantage for Russell if so...you get a game with excellent quality of filming, you don't have to expend any resources, and you get to see both teams palying at their peak level unlike say if Haywood traded the Devils a tape of the Magoffin County or Pike Central games.

Not as big of a cinderella or underdog but IMO i think we were both. We were supposed to get beat by breathitt by 21 and Belfry had already beaten us once that year. But i'm sure the result this year will end up the same as it was last year. Belfry will 3 peat the region. Does anybody have any information on when the last time someone won the region 3 years in a row?

The interest is that, SCHS upset Leslie, WYMT has coverage ton's of games, they even did the Henry Clay game live from Belfry, if the game would have been at the rock i believe it would still be covered live. The community is really pumped, the youth league football team won there division the middle school came in 2nd in the region and now the high school is playing in the regional game. Plus it helps that Belfry is a double state championship team.

it depends on your cable coverage. If they live around belmont hospital they will get wymt. If not they can always get the dvd from WYMT. I have heard rumors they will be onsale on their website for like 9.99, or with sports overtime $ 14.99

The fact that WYMT is broadcasting from CAM during this game speaks volumes of the Belfry facilities. I am proud that the field will be shown to others in the viewing area who have not been to Belfry.

Who else is going to be on "Sports Overtime". Besides me.

11-17-2005, 09:44 AM
It's great for the kids to get this coverage and YMT should be thanked for getting on the bandwagon.
Yes, it is a decent regional interest game but throw out all the sentimental stuff...WYMT and any media outlet is doing this type of game for the $$$.
While everyone is thanking the people doing this don't forget the media and the sponsors that have been there all season...the radio stations and newspapers.

Looks like Sheldon Clarks confidence has turned into cockiness....It seems like Belfry is now the underdog at home, that is a role I think the Pirates will love to be in.....
11-18-2005, 05:26 PM
wymt is donating all profits from the dvd sales of the game will be donated to the sheldon clark and Belfry football programs....:Nodding:
