Thoughts, predictions?
Both are ranked inside of the bluegrassrivals top 20.

Not sure which direction the Bluebirds are headed, this could be a very competitve team with the result decided on the last play

I like PCC in this matchup, I will take the Dores by 10

I like PCC in this matchup and going to say by 12. I think that mountain basketball is the strongest it has been in a long time, you have a lot of good teams that can compete wit Lexington and Louisville schools.

PCC by 9

For those of you picking PCC by 10 and 12 points, you obviously don't know much about Highlands. They are going to go 10 deep and be the most physical team PCC plays all year.
6'6 270 Tyler Grubbs, fresh off a state championship in football, is going to be a load for the PCC front court. They will have nobody that can match up with him or Highlands deep front court in general.
I like the Birds in this one:
Highlands- 61
Perry Co- 51

Prestonsburg played Highlands last season and I spoke with Michael Burchett after that game and he said Highlands plays some great defense and they don't make mistakes.
I expect a low scoring game that could go either way, but this is the first real measuring stick for Perry Central as Highlands is a top 25 team in the state.

The key will be if Highlands is completely healthy. They have struggled lately with Stephen Kowolonek their Top 5 player in the 9th Region being out with tendinitis in his knee. He hasnt played in 7 days and will not play until Sunday. George Grote one of their top scorers from last year is coming off a concussion and a little rusty.
I do think Grubbs is a load and will bang with anybody PCC brings in the paint. They are very deep and will be ready for this tournament.

I'm going to say that Highlands struggles in this one but still makes it a close game!!
PCC by 3!
PCC by 3!

This will be a huge test for PC. I will be pulling for our mountain team but im going to say Highlands win this one by 10.

I've not seen highlands play so I can't make a prediction but I believe Perry will do well in the 5th/3rd.

Same, Goodluck dores.

This would be a huge win for PCC if the can pull this one off, this win would show NKY that we have a couple good teams in EKY, not just one. I really do think that PCC will pull this one off in low scoring hard nose defensive game.

this tourney is kind of weak this year. In the past, the 5th/3rd was one of the premier classics in the state. There is only one top 10 team (Trinity) that i see in this classic competing with alot of average teams. Perry Central and Hazard should come away with some wins in this, but hope they get to play some good competition.

I talked to an old college buddy who is a Fort Thomas grad. The bluebirds have two starters out with injuries. Also, their 6'7" 260 lb center is in Texas for the holidays visiting his mother. I look for PCC to take care of business in this one.

That's what I was thinking, wasn't sure how to react to that haha. I guess we have a Perry/Knott truce for the holidays

Perry-56
Highlands-53
A very defensive game with a shot late in the game deciding the win.
Good luck to both teams.

Perry will take care of this easily without Grubbs, Watson is good but the last game he did nothing against Newport.

You're kidding right? This tourney has a lot of good teams in it this year:
Trinity (Top 10)
Clark Co (Top 10)
Seneca (Top 5)
Boone Co (Top 20)
Highlands (Top 15)
Lexcath (Top 15)
If you don't think PCC will see some solid compeititon and take a loss of two, you're sadly mistaken.

I am fairly confident that the Birds will have Kowolonek and Grote back in the starting lineup today and these guys only led the team in scoring last year as Juniors. Kowolonek played for the Shining Stars this past summer and they won the Kentucky State AAU title and later advanced pretty far at Nationals while he was a top scorer for them as well. George Grote was a key player for the KY Firebirds who advanced deep into the AAU National Div 2 tourney. Tyler Grubbs the big 6'7 280lb Center might still be in Texas for another week visiting his moms but he also was part of that KY Firebird team. Other noteworthy players are Stephen Gordon and Zach Lother the guards (Firebird team members) and Benny Watson the 6'3 PF who can mix it up. Jack Stewart the 6'6 Jr Center may be filling in for Grubbs and he played with the NKY Bulldog team that did very well in the KY State AAU tourney. Throw in Corey Dill (Firebirds) the 6'4 200lb do it all guy who scraps for loose balls, knocks down open Jumpers and can handle the rock and you have a very good SR laden squad.

Just got confirmation that Tyler Grubbs is still out of town and wont play in this tournament. PCC just got a big break there because he is a beast.

Seneca clearly needs to be ranked in the top 20 at minimum. St. Xavier is a very solid team also and no slouch.

I agree, when the new rankings come out I expect Seneca to be ranked.
