Shelby Valley 2009-2010
With the addition of the new transfers, SV will be a lot better than kywildcat could even imagine.

wait, transfers?
PC_You_Know Wrote:QUESTION!

Why did Elliott get so much love last year, they lost to Shelby Valley, one of the teams who didn't have the "athleticism" like the Louisville and Lexington teams, Elliott didn't prove themselves one bit, but the state ate them up with love and attention, even national attention.

They also beat Shelby Valley. I think the reason everyone loved them so much ,this team was a team from a small town and wasn't mixed matched with players from all over. Elliott more than proved themselves last year, even going down in defeat the first game against SV it was obvious they were clearly the better team and proved it in the Sweet 16 where it really mattered.

Obvious? SV made ZERO threes in that game, and blew 7 straight free throws, is it OBVIOS? good gosh.

Let's see, everyone on SV's team who saw any time either played at Dorton or Virgie, (Elisha, Logan, Curby, Varney--Dorton. Hatfield, and both Newsomes--Virgie) with the exception of Devan Adams--South Floyd and Pikeville. I'd really call that mixed matched wouldn't you? Where did you get that from? I had heard that the Knipps previously attended or were from somewhere else. Not sure if that is true or not, but SV's team from this past season is as homegrown as 99% of the teams in the state.
Yeah, SV's team had played together on AAU since grade school other than Ashley and Devan.

Why yes I would. Timmy knipp has attended Elliott since at least 7th grade.

Aren't those 2 of the previous starting 5?

Little Lad just took you to school at your own game.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Yes, Ashley transferred to Virgie for 7th grade, and Devan came for his Senior year.

You love those little icons don't you?

Like said before, I was just very aggravated with the way you used the form of "there, their, and they're" that day. I'm sure if I kept a tab on your grammar usage, you would be in a losing battle against me.

Wrong again, you where aggravated the way I used you, your and you're.The smile's are a representation of the way I feel when you make your english class comments. You flat out crack me up.:lmao: And yes I would lose the battle to you in a "grammar war" :igiveup:If you want to take the time to keep score knock yourself out,I have better things to do with my time. When I was in college I spent more time chasing good looking girls around than I did being on a sports message board.

Never try to out bs a bs'er.:lmao:

Sorry I don't go out chasing girls, I've had "A" girl for 7 years, sounds like you're still chasing. And right there, me not knowing you messed up the "your" usage just shows how much I actually cared about the situation, but you had to bring back up something about grammar.

Have been happily married for over 15 years thank you very much. And I was not the one brought up the grammar issue, you tried to beat it like a dead horse until others pointed out your own gramatical errors, you thought you would make me look bad because you thought I misspelled the word obvious.

Any way it's all in good fun.Back to the topic, who is the tallest player for SV?Will they start in the upcoming season?

Hatfield - 6'6" - starter
Tyler Newsome - 6'5" - probable starter
Berger - 6'5" - non starter
Dylan Tackett - 6'4" - non starter
Taylor Newsome - 6"3" - starter
Cody Varney - 6'2" - probable starter

I honestly have no clue...I wasn't exactly one of those on the "Elliott love boat" though when they were beating weak 16th region teams by 40 and 50 points. I think the attention they got had more to do with their fans hyping them up so much.

Elliott did prove themselves though. They beat three top 25 teams during the regular season...Anderson Co, Ballard, and Mason Co.

Then in the post season they took care of Anderson Co again, avenged their only in state loss to SV, and then ran in to the eventual state champs and just couldn't overcome a team that talented. I'd say they proved a lot last year. 5-2 against top 25 teams is pretty solid.

Thanks for the info. They have solid size that starts and
on the bench.

One thing the a lot of people loved about them was, they were from a small town and a small school. Everyone likes to see the little guy triumph.

Will be Shelby Valley's starting 5 next year and Cody Belter may come off the bench for them but few minutes.
He has alot skills to be a great big man and if he works on his down low presence he will go far.

Actually, SV wasn't "mixed matched" with players from all over, either. Of the two players you are probably referring to, one (Hatfield) went to Virgie from 7th grade on and at least partially came through the SV feeder system, just like Knipp at Elliott.

The other more well-known transfer was Adams, who had previouls played for Pikeville. However, his family was originally from the Virgie area, with some still living there at the time of the transfer. So it's not like he was some out-of-area mercenary who moved in.

One more point of contention: Elliott hardly proved they were the better team last year by any stretch, much less being "clearly" better. I don't see how a 1-1 split of the two games the teams played shows any kind of superiority for one team over the other. The timing of Elliott's win being in the Sweet Sixteen does not give it any more credence than SV's earlier victory. By the same token, although one could argue that at least SV's win did lead to a nice addition to the trophy case, I'm not going to try to say that it proves SV was better.

The head-to-head facts speak for themselves: two excellent teams, split two very hotly contested games.

That was funny.:lmao: (not trying to be smart it really was). But you have to admitt without Adams they never touch Elliott or Mason. I agree both games were hotly contested,They win in the sweet 16 holds quite a bit more weight than the all A. Elliott got the best SV could offer in both games against them SV got the real Elliott once and lost. Elliott should have taken the all A a little more serious but they didn't no excuses so they will pay the price by opening the door and letting SV be in the same conversation with them.

Did you totally ignore my post earlier? When SV beat Elliott, SV made 0 3-point shots, that's not the "REAL" Valley either, but they still won the game and even blew 7 straight free throws.

I'll do my discussioning from now on with "Real Valley Fans " like More Cowbell and DortonWildcats5:rockon: ,they are very knowledgeable and they stood behind SV win or loose. I respect that.

Are all the projected starters next year playing AAU this summer?

All but Cody Varney as far as I know. He has been playing baseball and he also is the quarterback on the football team. Maybe he'll start playing since baseball is over.

Thanks, blow off a question because you know what you stated earlier was TOTALLY wrong when you said it was clear that Elliott was better.

Belter is very talented, but he will need more strength and speed to contribute on the varsity next season. He could definitely help on the freshman and JV teams though. To me he needs to concentrate on grade school ball and getting stronger and quicker laterally. By his sophomore season, he'll be one of their main weapons, along with Dalton Richardson.

Jacob Robinson, Logan Lucas, Colton Damron, Rusty and Trey Roberts will compete for minutes at guard, and Dillon Tackett, Christian Bartley, and Jonathan Berger will compete for minutes at forward and center. That could all change if Whitaker and Ramey come to SV though.

Personally, I think SV will be as good next year as they were last season. What they lose in size, they will gain in quickness (which will allow them to play an even faster paced game). They will not match up as well with teams all around the state like they did last season when they had such versatile lineup possibilities, but you can guarantee that Elisha Justice will be a much better player (credit that to an amazing work ethic and love for the game). I also look for big things from Tyler Newsome who will now get a chance to really showcase his skills. If Ashley, Taylor, and Varney improve their games very much, SV will be very dangerous again.
The size loss is really going to affect them.

I really could care less if you want to answer, read, acknowledge my posts or not, but you said that wasn't the "real" Elliott team, well the "real" Valley team of last year didn't miss all their 3's and miss 7 straight free throws. Could you please make it clear where it's obvious that Elliott was the better team?

You said More Cowbell is one of the "Real Valley Fans", well he also said the series was split and there's no way to make a case for either being better, so how about if you won't answer me, answer him and show us all how Elliott was the better team.

Question for you
. Are you on here to bash Shelby Valley all the time, because I've not seen you talking about any other team on this site.
