The Cincinnati Reds will reportedly call up mega-prospect Jay Bruce today, prior to beginning a homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bruce, who had a shot at making the club out of spring training but was slowed by an injury, will finally get to show off that talent we Reds fans have been hearing about for so long now. As mentioned in the article, GM Walt Jocketty expects him to be a full-time starter, so at least he won't be coming up just to sit the bench.
Side note, I wonder how tonight's home attendance figures might be affected by the news? I bet the Reds' ticket offices are hopping right now...

Well, Jay Bruce was indeed in the starting lineup tonight, and he had about as good a debut as one could hope for. His line from the game:
5 plate appearances, 3 hits including a double, 2 walks, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 stolen base. Very impressive.
Side note, I was apparently wrong about the buzz I expected his call-up to generate. The Reds played in front of a pitiful crowd of under 18,000 tonight. So much for Cincy being a baseball city.

He did get the traditional pie-in-the-face during the post-game interview, also.

What a game he had walked twice went 3-3 with 2 singles and a double and a stolen base in there as well.

I'm sure Dusty will find a reason to bench him for Corey Patterson here in the next couple of days.

Unfortunately, I think Dusty will probably find a way to continue his "love affair" .. with Corey Patterson, not to take anything away from Patterson because has some very good talent but Bruce I think needs the experience now for next season, because Bruce is the better player....JMO....

He's good, don't get me wrong, and hopefully he can put a spark in the Reds' bats, but everybody, including PTI, is talking about him already like this one game will win us the World Series.
