WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAZ) -- Many Americans are wondering when that tax rebate check is coming from the IRS.
The checks are set to hit the mail in May.
The IRS will start sending economic stimulus checks out May 2nd.
Those who don't want to wait for a paper payment can sign up for direct deposit.

Yep, I got my letter in the mail a couple days ago saying they would arrive in May. I didn't see the thing about the direct deposit though. I'll have to figure out how to do that.

I believe you're still eligible for a $300 stimulus if you're claimed as a dependent, but made more than 3K or 4K, not sure which though.

Has anyone figured out how to set up direct deposit?
03-21-2008, 09:49 AM
The year, taxpayers who elect direct deposit may receive an additional benefit. For most taxpayers, selecting the direct deposit option for their 2007 refund will also allow their economic stimulus payment to be direct deposited. However, in some instances, such as if the taxpayer has the refund deposited into an IRA account, or elects to split the refund into two or more accounts paper stimulus check will be issued. Even taxpayers who are not expecting a refund this year can complete the direct deposit section of their return to ensure that the stimulus payment is electronically deposited into their account. For more information on the direct deposit of stimulus payments visit the IRS Economic Stimulus Payment Information Center on IRS.gov.
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,i...41,00.html
The way I read this is if you set up your refund to go direct deposit then your stimulus deposit will go that way as well.
I wonder how it will work if you have to pay.

I got hit with the same thing a few years ago. I actually claimed it but it cost me a ton of money.
I am self employed so I have to pay every year now. I figure I will have to pay around 1500 total this year and was hoping to get the stimulus package quick so I can put back what I spend instead of waiting till June or July. Mine will be direct deposited around May the 9th if If they will use my direct deposit information when I pay mine.

No. I went back and double checked and everything i found said that if you're claimed as a dependent you will not get any stimulus payment.
Why are they still claiming you, though? Are they still getting a good tax break because of it?

Direct deposit will be received that day. Checks are mailed that day. It is on Fridays just like other income tax refunds. I don't know about the July 4th date.
They might not mail those to July 7th.

They will use direct deposit info even if you owe. Make sure to fill out routing and account information on the tax return.

I believe if you claim yourself as a dependent next year and have enough income you could get credit on your 2008 return.
Your parents won't get any money for you this year because you are over 16.

I have to wait to july to get mine
