Well i think that mountain people will support JBS, just a few select people who dislike JBS for reasons beyond me will not. I think that some people don't like JBS because these people don't like change. For years, JBS was at the bottom of the region and everyones homecoming opponent. Since JBS has started having success, people don't like them because they don't like change. Some people don't like JBS because they blow people out 50+ some games. but JBS is not the only team that does this, Elliot Co., Shelby Valley, Paintsville, and many other teams have did that this year. JBS used to get blown out much like they are doing to some teams this year, but when JBS blows teams out they are wrong? For example, against Jenkins JBS played everyone in the game including 8 people in the 1st quarter. I don't think any of JBS' starters played over 20 min. that game. I apologize for getting off of the thread subject, but i just thought this needed to be said.

If you know anything about JBS that is the reason people dislikes them, not because of change, or atleast me.

On certain boards there are 'private/public school debates'. There you can find ample reasons why I and many others don't like JBS.
But many just don't like the 'kingdom of Stepp', whether JBS has a winning or a losing season. Incidents by the Stepps that I have observed on the court are what turned me against them.

A true test for the JBS crusaders. Lexington Catholic has a very talented team this year and they are coming off a big win against the # 9 team in the nation Chicago Simeon from Illinois which was played at Marshall County, and a 21 point win over Tates Creek. Guess we will see come tip-off.
Lex. Catholic - 79

I was hoping JBS would win too because they are from the mountains. My husband who played basketball in high school and college says there was no way he could play for JBS. I didnt watch the game but he said the Stepps shot most everytime they got the ball. He doesnt think that Clark can play for anyone but Alice Lloyd because other colleges wont let he shot the way he does over there. He also said that Cox made almost every shot he took but didnt get to shot that much. Come on there are 5 players on that team!! NOT TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Any comment from someone else who watched the game?

I know a lot about JBS. People need to quite making excuses for not liking them. They cannot facethe fact that JBS currently has a better team.

couldnt agree more. I think its a shame to dawg a team because you are jealous of their accomplishments. Sure they could be coached better, but jbs has a darn fine group of kids and i think most people from the mountains are proud of the fact that they have a school with less that 100 kids that can go anywhere in the state and compete with schools that have thousands.

OK, where to start here...Lets begin by asking the above posters to take a drink of water, take off your JBS jersey and be prepared to listen to rational adults explain their views, again. Lets start with jealousy of accomplisments: Don't think so. They have a couple of years of outstanding basketball after years of thumpings at the hands of the ones they are now beating. OK, thats cool. What goes around comes around I guess and now its JBS time to shine. And that would be fine if the admin at JBS would allow it to be JBS as a team time to shine. Instead, all we get are inflated numbers and public remarks about how Clark Stepp is the best player in the state. I am sure not jealous of JBS. I am happy they have taken their poor old 100 student school( ) and do what they have done....you know, while we are on that 100 student school, lets see...hmmm....is it possible that they have an unfair advantage over the rest of the region in that they get "recruiting" abilities as a private school. Now, lets not hear about how "all these boys have been together since..." They have the ability and resources to give parents jobs to get their kids to go there, etc..
Now, as I said in other posts, I actually like the kids on the TEAM. Now that word implies a group of people who work together to serve the best interest for the group as a whole, so that eliminates a couple of people from that squad if you catch my drift. But Tate Cox is a nice young man, as is Garrison Collins and several other players who don't put towels over their heads and turn their backs on teams recieving trophies after beating them out of a tournament (ala Clark Stepp in last years all A final). So, hopefully this is resolved that we JBS haters really hate the admin and the way young talent is exploited to further push a player that is in no way part of a TEAM.

Ok. How does a school with less than 100 kids compete? well, you take a look back and you could understand. Clark and Short should be in college. Tate and Clint should be sr. in high school.Collins not sure of. Hall was not held back (went to grade school in knott county elementary). This is how they compete. Now before you say that a lot of schools do this (they do)even KCC think about it. JBS pushes come to our school with high academics. This is not the case. It is now about about basketball at this school. If it's not about basketball why was these kids held back two years. As far as competing with schools with thousands, not seeing this.

As far as being jealous of their accomplishments, never. People around JBS now what it's about and most of the cases it's not about the kids. It's win at all cost. Been around and have friends that attended this school and they know what it's like. Tate is a great person and I will never take anything from his ball playing. I cheer and hope he does well.
Jealous, get real.

Do a poll of every team in the region and see how many starters were held back not only one but two years and I bet it will surprise you...But I will also say that staying back doesnt always help either...I have saw alot of kids stay back two years and never get any better and the only thing they get out of it is getting to vote while in high school....

Don't try to pull one Short has been held back. Also, I know that teams have hold backs. Read my post again. My point is that this almighty higher education that you get at JBS is the true joke. KCC is a lot harder than JBS ever thought about being. JBS has turned into a basketball school not a place for say better learning. That is sad. I have been to both schools and for that fact I know what it's like. Great job Tate keep playing hard.

The last time I checked most teams try to promote their seniors. Get off the Stepp anti-bandwagon. Its beginning to look like you are jealous. If the other players are so unhappy then why do they stay???

This player has been promoted since birth. All we in the 14th have heard is how he is gonna be the best player out of the mountains ever. Nothing wrong with promoting seniors, but not at the expense of holding the rest of the team down. And here is a thought for you; perhaps the other players are there because they have family ties to the program, or maybe because they don't want to switch schools. Sorry Mr. or Mrs. Stepp, I mean Chuck, if I offended you
