I'll put it in better terms for you, Florida is D-1, Pikeville College is not.

As for D-1 prospects in the mountains, there are very few. To play D-1 you have to have the desire and love the game of basketball. Also, mainly you need the publicity to get your name out there for the colleges. To take up for SV boys that have played AAU , they have played up a grade not down.

We get on here and bitch alot about the talent from our region not getting equal credit as athletes in the Lexington/ Louisville area. I now know why, when we do have good athletes we tend to overevaluate them. I am sure these athletes read these posts on this blog. If I were any of these kids mentioned on here I would even come out an play, according to some of you their just wasting their time and dreams.

Thanks for explaing D-1. Now that i know what you all are talking about i can comment.
First of all i haven't seen any publicity on any certain player here in the mountains. Look at the boy from Huntington High and the boy that just signed with UK {Darius ?} they both were on the news all the time. That is how they got so much attention from D-1 schools. Do you see any of our kids on the news being individual recognized for the talent they have? NO! So don't expect it!
In the past if our kids did go to a D-1 school they coudn't handle it. they ended up back home. that is our fault for not getting our children better prepared for life. they go from being top dog in their school to the little man in college.
Good Luck to any kid that does make it! I hope they go and make everyone from this area proud!

The Watts kid from McCreary Central is a D-1 athlete. I think BB is his best sport. I think he averaged 20 ppg last year as a freshman. (South Eastern Kentucky we think we are in the mountains, personally I am not sure if we are or not)

Crawford from Corbin will be a junior. At 6-4 he is a nice looking D-1 two guard.

The player from Huntington you are referring to is Patrick Patterson, and he is a very good ball player. He is around 6"8 and weighs about 250 or 260. I watched him play down at Memorial Colliseum against the state Champs Scott County. He was quite a load for those boys to handle. I believe the only reason he got national attention was because of Mayo. Before Mayo enrolled he was just a D-1 recruit, then after that he kept getting more and more attention. I'm suprised that D. Miller from Mason hasnt got alot of attention, unless he has and I didnt know it. There are several talented ball players in Kentucky, but some of it has to do with being in the right place in the right time. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?
