New Head Coach for Pike Central!!
#1
Pike Central's head coach David Rowe has been "forced" to resign after the resignation of Principal Eddie McCoy. Rowe of Coal Run Kentucky has been the head coach at Pike Central since the school was opened in 1993, where befor he was coaching at John Creek High School befor the consolidation of Johns Creek and Mullins. Mark Thompson who has been under the wing of Rowe will now take over as Head Basketball Coach at Pike Central High School. Thompson originaly from Phelps played at Johns Creek, where then after he earned his degree in teaching and began his teaching and coachning at Henry Clay. Where as an assistant he coached at two sweet sixteens. Thompson came to Pike Central in 2004 for hopes to help better the Pike Central program. Rowe will now take over the vacant Principalship which declares him ineligable to coach a varsity sport. The rule states that no principal in the distict of Pike County will/can coach a varsity high school sport.

This is what Rowe wants or he wouldn't accept it!! Also, he now moves into a first place tie with Danny Adams as the best 15th region coach to never get to the big dance!!
#3
Coach Rowe is a good person i wish him luck and to Mark Thompson also.
#4
PC is losing a great coach and great person, but fortunately for them he will become their principal!!!
#5
Congrats to Coach Rowe and Coach Thompson, both are very deserving of their positions. Good luck. You will both need it (its pike county). lol
#6
I hope that things work out for ALL concerned at Pike County Central. Let us hope that Pike County Central will "soar" once again.

I do not think this is really the way he wanted to go out but, rather he is looking out for the better of the school. He has been the man to go to at that school since he became the second assistant to McCoy. And I would have to agree he is the best coach to never win a 15th regional championship. I would like to wish him and Mark the best of luck.

good luck to coach Rowe and the hawks!!!!!!!!!!

I think "forced to resign" is a little strong here.
Everyone involved knew that the principal cannot and IMO, should not be allowed to also be principal.
Coach Rowe has been positioning for the principals job for a couple of years now and this is the natural progression that was anticipated...Rowe to principal...Thompson to head basketball coach.

With this said, this thread is a little pre-mature.
While Rowe is the interim principal, "Official " hiring has not taken place.

it's hard to believe pike central has never made it to rupp with all of the great players they have had.
#12
Not to be bias or what not, but they were basically robbed a few years back in the 15th region title game v.s. ER, I know theres ER fans on here but from my objective they did. But back on subject, PC will be losing a great coach in Rowe,on the contrary they will be getting a great principal!

I don't remember many "great" players at PC. Great basketball players play at the next level. Now, with Brad Lowe not being able to cut it at the college level, I believe Pike Central has yet to have a former player complete 4 years of college basketball. I think Rowe has gotten the very best out of some "average" high school talent.

Brad had the ability on the court to cut it at the college level. He did much better in the time he was at Pikeville College than I thought he would. I heard a rumor as to why he isnt going to attend PC this year. But until I know it to be a fact, it wont be posted why. Talent on the court and his work in the classroom isnt a factor if what I heard is true. He had good work ethic while he was a Bear. The coaches at PC talked highly of him. Also, he seemed to be a very nice kid.

Here are a few that were very good ball players to come out of PC to never play college ball.

Barry Sanders, Jamie Hamilton, Chase Lyons just to name a few

I remember hearing that Alice Lloyd signed Barry Sanders. I thought he was going to play for their JV squad but decided against it. I would have liked to seen him play for ALC, he seemed like a good guy and I heard he was a pretty good player.

Yes, you are correct on all of that he actually had more than just ALC looking at him as the same with Jamie and Chase. All were great talents and could have went some where, but all choose not to.
#18
I think if he would have stuck with it at ALC he probably would have saw some action at the varsity. I remember that fall he came in, 2003, ALC had Brandon Wheeler and Jeremy Jones on the varsity roster and by the spring term both of those guys had quit the team. Sometimes, though a player may just decide to focus on academics and give it up, I think Barry transfered to Morehead after his freshman year anyways.

Speaking of Pike Central talent, I wonder if Brad Lowe may wind up playing college ball at another school? I heard he's not playing for Pikeville College anymore

Please stay on topic...this thread is about the new PC coach, not former players.

He told me he is going to go work in the mines now. He was a very smart kid 4.0 i think and like a 24 on the ACT.

But back on topic Pike Central has some very good talent coming in this year they just got a transfer from Pikeville who was the top player in the county for grade school. So maybe Mark will have something to work with I sure hope so. He has def. walked into a rebuilding program.

If the head basketball coaching job has already been decided, why was the position posted? Just wondering......

I see their first chance at winning a regional championship in 4 years. For the next three years it will either be Shelby Valley, Pikeville, or Paintsville.

thats what we all said about ER and look at what they did.

Unless they get some MAJOR transfers, like 3 nice players, I don't see them winning a region title.

They have 0 feeder programs because the parents of the students at Johns Creek, Kimper, and Mullins do not want to combine at the new school and make it a Middle school.

Until that happens they are not going to be very good.....

its not all the parents really the board has the final word in it all. Plus where would you put the kids at Mullins who are in grade school. That school at Mullins is not suitable for any kids.

If it was me I would

Send all K-5 to Johns Creek and 6-8 To the New school.

Shut Down Mullins and Kimper.......
