Former Eagle now a Tiger?

..and you are right, Runyon would not put up with Murray's attitude!!

That don't make much sense considerin McCarty never played any defense himself.

Bundy-1, Murray-2, Slone-3, Grimm-4, Vanhoose-4 or 5.
Paintsville could once again go 8-9 deep and run the floor all night, but they have been that deep many times and still only play 5-6 unless there is foul trouble.
They are the only team I have every seen, that can play run and gun every year and still want to be mostly a half court team even though they are small in size.

I think Daniel Meade has earned his spot in the startin line-up. If he worked at it he could be in the post.

.....but he only weighs about 105. The only reason he plays at all is his 3 point ability. He is very limited in his skills and to say he could play the post is a joke.

He weighs more than 105. And we could count on one hand how many TRUE post players there are in this region. The boy from Shelby Valley aint no bigger than Meade. I know Daniel well, and if he set his mind to it and worked at it he could play the post in this region. Outside the region is another story.

Daniel Meade could play in the post as bout as well as my 2 yr. son! He's too weak and not aggressive enough for the paint. That's why he trots around the 3 point line hoping one of those 4 ball hogs will pass it once.

What (4) ball hogs are you talking about?

Wow, this is unbelievable.... KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A DAMN KID YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT!

1. Murray is not a bad kid!
2. He does not have anger issues!
3. He has the ability to be a great player and teammate!
4. About his dad and whatever happened there....Starns has no right to ever kick a player off the team, considering HE QUIT ON THE TEAM ALSO!
5. This wouldnt be a heated debate if the rivalry between the 2 schools wasnt so great. Kids switch schools all the time for sporting reasons, get over it and move on. The basketball program at JC in the dumps, hell, i dont blame him for wanting to have a chance with a coach that knows how to connect with the students in a positivie, constructive manner!
#40
I wish him luck on whatever he and his family decides to do. If they think its for the better for their child then let him go. After about 6 players Paintsville is not that deep, so he can only help them out in that category.

He may be now, that's why I said if he worked at it. I know Daniel personally, and I know if he set his mind to it, he could do it. Paintsville hasn't had an aggressive post player in a long time. Daniel wants to play, he wants to win, he would do whatever he had to do to get the job done and help his team win.

First of all, I dont remember Murray ever being kicked off a team, and the part about him quitting is between him and administration (if it ever really happened offically, which I don't think it did).

Secondly, the KHSAA is taking notice of what is going on with recruiting and switching schools for sports and is taking measures to keep it from happening!

By the way, I don't have a kid playing basketball for Starns right now, but I would be thrilled to have Starns coach my son. I don't expect my son to be patted on the back for nothing and taught that you can do what you want without consequences. That seems to be the problem anymore with teenagers.

My responses:

1. Murray is not a bad kid! -- No he isn't a bad kid...but he has made some really bad choices in his life and they are not being addressed as they should by those in his life who are supposed to love him....even if it means tough love for a change.
2. He does not have anger issues! -- This I absolutely do not agree with. He does have anger issues especially to those in authority over him because he does not deal well with authority....case in point his coaches...for his entire life!
3. He has the ability to be a great player and teammate! -- Justin has alot of talent but his problem is he thinks he is the only one on the floor who has the talent. He thinks he is the only one who can shoot. He thinks he is the only one who can make his team win. Therefore, he refuses to pass and he will shoot the ball with three other players on him. That does not make him a great teammate....sorry but the truth hurts.
4. About his dad and whatever happened there....Starns has no right to ever kick a player off the team, considering HE QUIT ON THE TEAM ALSO! -- Starns has had alot of heat on him and he put up with alot of crap from players, parents, and opposing fans. I don't blame him for being tempted to leave. But the fact remains that he stayed. He realized that there were players who believed in him....and that he believed in and he decided to stay for them. Starns is a top notch coach. He knows basketball and he is the coach.....so he has every right to kick any player off of the team for that simple reason. I believe that he allowed players to come back last year out of compassion. A few of the players in question...I would never have allowed back on the team but he showed class in letting them come back....and he had to eat crow on a couple of them but he did it anyway.
-- JC's basketball program is not in the dumps. Yes, they had a rough season but that was not anyone's fault but the players. We had too many players trying to be the hero and not looking for the open man. You had players.....such as Justin Murray....who would come down the floor and dribble into the zone and shoot the ball with several of his own players wide open under the rim and refuse to pass the ball. You had players who refused to listen to the coach.....when he called a play and they just jack the ball up from wherever so they get the glory instead of making the team look good. Disgusting. They did not play as a team and they flat out refused to play as a team most of the time. Basketball is a team sport....and therefore if you don't play as a team then you deserve to lose. Period.

This post has nothing to do with Coach Starns! If I were a Coach and some of the things that are said on this site about coaches, I WOULD SUE THE PANTS OF PEOPLE AND THOSE INVOLVED. A good lawyer would eat this up! I would highly recomend it to Coach Starns the first chance I can see him.

I agree!!!!!!!!

JC's program in the dumps! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA now that's funny. They have won multiple region titles since 2000 and multiple district titles as well. IMO NO KID should be aloud to switch schools while in high school. I don't care what school they came from or what school they want to go to. Unless they make a ligitimate move they shouldn't be aloud!

They have won 1 region title since 2000 (2006) and have won 2 district titles since 2000 (2002 and 2005).

For those wanting to get back on topic, JM hurt his ankle today along with LS and both were sidelined for todays games.

Who were they playing and how did the Tigers look?

I like how you qouted my post when you made this remark, even though i never said anything to slander Coach Starns or anyone else, other than the basketball program itself. The only point i made about Starns was that I thought that it would not be right for him to kick a player off the same team that he quit on also during the middle of the season. I believe Starns is a good coach, but I do not believe it would be right for him to kick a kid off the team and not give him a fair chance to come back. That was the point I made. If a good lawyer could find something in that paragraph, then go at it.

Now dont get me wrong, I like the Eagles, but that program sometimes appears to be declining at times with the number of kids not coming out, and the number of kids graduating or transferring ( or trying to transfer). I got a little carried away when i said it was in the dumps, but that was out of pure frustration from what some people say on here about kids that are still in highschool. This is not college or the NBA people.

1. There's no such thing as a release in HS sports in KY. It doesn't mattter what schools think, only KHSAA.
2. No bona fide change of residence, no eligible for one year. And trust me, they do investigate it!

Ever heard of the 1st Amendment???

IMO, A good lawyer would laugh at this.

I can honestly say this. If Murray has talent and will work at becoming better, he's in the right place. That's not meant to be negative against Johnson Central, so don't make it. I am just saying when you factor in the size of the student bodies, the attendence, the county having 4 or 5 "feeder" elementary schools, Paintsville pretty much has to develop what they have. Central being a larger school can replace a body and develop another player from the student body a little easier than a school that graduates somewhere around 50-60 kids in a senior class.

The kid just went to camp. That doesn't mean anything.

Murray can play ball and will help Paintsville. The only question is can he hold himself together emotionally all season?I guess only time will tell!!!
