Congratulations to the entire class and Ervin was a very good high school player that deserved to be on the HOF list.

Ervin Stepp is deserving of this honor he was like a rock star around these parts back in the late 70's early 80's. He was a treat to watch and I saw him play several times including one of his lowest outputs 19 pts in the old gym at Belfry. Also, saw him drop 65 on Feds Creek in the McCoy AC. It was fun just to watch him warm up

Its a high school Hall of Fame not a College Hall of Fame so Yes he does deserve it.
06-03-2007, 11:19 PM
AMEN!!!!! Yes, he does!!
06-04-2007, 12:10 AM
his numbers are deserving , i totally agree.... but dont you think someone who av. 53 pts a game and won mr basketball should have played at a little bit higher level than alice lloyd...... or could it be that he played for his brother joe who let him do whatever and he couldnt make it playing big time ball. Thats what it sounds like to me...... a mr basketball winner should lead his team to the state tourney.......

Agreed!

DECENT PLAYER!!!!! You have to be kidding yourself!!!! DECENT players do not get to be MR. Basketball of the entire state for just being decent!!!! I've seen Ervin numerous times at the gym in phelps playing pickup games with high school kids and older kids and men that used to play and he is still unbelievable to watch:notworthy

Congrats Ervin very well deserved!!!!!

Congrats Ervin!! Great guy, Great player.

Ervin was a great pure shooter. I guess big time colleges didn't think he was quick enough to recruit but I don't know. And this was before the 3 point line became a part of the game & made shooters more of a priority.
I can tell you this: I graduated from Phelps in '82 with great academics & had ZERO scholarship offers. I don't think our school got much respect in many areas, but that's just my opinion.

if he played in a time where shooters were priority and avaraged 53 pts a game and didnt get a big time offer, those colleges knew somethin ..... or saw something they didnt like

I knew it would not take long for the sarcasim & jealousy to rear its ugly head. Look at your previous Mr. Basketballs & Mr. Footballs to see how many others you could say the same thing about. If you are so intelligent as to throw out your sarcasim about his college career why are you not smart enough to realize he is being rewarded for his "High School" career. Maybe you are, but you just had to take a jab. Maybe your comment speaks more of your intelligence than knowing anything of what this topic is all about.

Congrats to Ervin, for making the high school Hall of Fame. I think it just proves you have to be able to do more than just shot 3's to go to a higher level. Points count but good defense, making good passes and a good head have to be in there somewhere.

The best player to ever come out of that family is without a doubt Jim Stepp. And he and gary get the least amount of respect of all the stepp boys. There are better players than ervin stepp to have played in eky and not be in the hall of fame.

Recruiting is not an exact science timing and chances taken on good kids by college coaches have a hand in a marginal players shot for a good career. Think John Pelphrey, Deron Feldhaus, Richie Farmer and Chris Lofton.
The three point line has helped kids that are great shooters and maybe not great athletes.
Ervin Stepp was a great high school player he so deserves this recognition.
