I have a ton of respect for Coach Thompson And his Lawrence Squad but I do believe that Paintsville is better than them. They beat Lawrence by a ton in summer ball if I remember and But a beating on a Belfry team that only lost by 5 to Lawrence County a few days before. Yes Belfry may have played worse at Paintsville but It’s just something to throw out there. Paintsville may have some of if not the best size in the region. Thats my opinion as of now. No doubt though that come post season time Chandler will have his guys ready to compete for a 15th Region Title.

Good list. I think JC needs to be #6 at least

I agree no way Jc is 9th in this region. I think they can be as good as anyone.

JC lost to Valley already this year. Can’t put JC above them when they just lost to them.

I haven't seen Paintsville play this year, but they lost to Russell which is mid pack in a very bad 16th region.

The list was made from wins and losses, not potential. I've not got to watch some of these teams play.....just a ranking on who had beaten who (with a couple of exceptions - the Martin County losing to Perry being the most notable).

I watched this game on Mytowntv on Facebook. That was one of the most lopsided reffed games i’ve saw in a while. Russell got every single call and the refs kept Russell in that game. I don’t like making excuses for teams but Paintsville got screwed by the refs in that game.

Which is commonplace when you go play over in the 16th.

They share the ball really well, and they are hard to gameplan for because any of the 4 returning starters from last year can have a big game. Paintsville is the only team in the region that has 4 guys averaging double digits.

Looking like this is Martin Co.'s region to lose.

I think Pikeville might be the only team that can beat them. Martin is the most athletic team in the region, but they play sloppy on offense sometimes. Their defense annd athleticism usually carries them through it, but it’s a weakness that can be exploited, I think. But even when they aren’t hitting shots they’ve always got Watts slashing to the rim for dunks or FT’s, which usually opens up the shooters, and Watts is great at finding open guys when he gets doubled. They don’t block out particularly well and it seems like their offense outside of Watts usually doesn’t get red hot until the 2nd half. I think if pikeville matches their physicality, blocks out and keeps Watts from penetrating by drawing charges to get him in foul trouble early then they can win. The biggest problem teams have with them is you can’t double him because they’ve got 2-3 guys that will get hot quick if they’re left to shoot open threes. I’d like to see Pikeville play straight half court man on them with Onkst on Watts and see what happens. That would be worth the price of admission, I think. When teams try to play zone against them it just opens up the 3’s for their guards and when they play man MC just out-athletes you to the rim. Pikeville can do it but it’ll be tough.

3 teams that could give them trouble down the line would be pikeville, Lawrence and Besty layne. Besty layne on the right night can beat anyone in the 15th.

I know ER has a new coach, haven't watched them play, honestly haven't heard very much about them to this point, but I've seen Pburg play a few times already, and at this point they're the only winless team in the region, a lot of drama & dissention already surrounding this team less than 10 games into the season. Can't speak for how things are at East Ridge, hopefully going good for them, but Prestonsburg? Not good at all and no signs of improving.

I agree, not going by pre-season rankings anymore, I know they were listed pretty high then, but we're a few weeks into the season now and JC is off to a slower start than everyone expected, Tommy is a great coach tho and I'm sure he will get things figured out with this team, too much talent not to.

Martin county is one of the most atrocious basketball teams I have ever seen in my life. I would not be surprised if many of their starters were ejected from future games. I know that these kids are very good athletes but they need to gain some character

As someone who played on some Pburg basketball teams full of football players that were much stronger than all other teams in the 15th I will stick up for Martin in this one and say that if other teams get so frustrated by being physically dominated for 4 quarters that they just want to fight then that’s their fault, not Martin county’s. Martin county plays hard, aggressive, physical basketball. That’s the way the game should be played, IMO. If other teams can’t handle it then maybe they should get in the weight room in the offseason instead of resorting to pushing guys in the back into the bleachers and throwing cheap shots on layups. I haven’t seen Martin play dirty ball against anybody this year, but I’ve sure seen multiple other schools play dirty against them. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I understand what you are saying and I agree with you, but Martin's best player was literally expelled from schools for writing slurs in school bathrooms. That is what I mean by character. I do not mean that they are physical and aggressive when they play when I am talking about "character", I am talking about what they say and how they act.

Not saying that is true but parker watts is one of the better people ive ever talked to and people tend to mature as they get older

this is entirely false and ignorant of you to say. The kid was on the move for better opportunities and this is atrocious to try to pin something like this on a kid. Watts is a good kid from what I’ve seen and have heard of. If you don’t have firsthand experiences on an athlete, keep your mouth closed. Fools like to talk when they want to feel important.

Good lost other than Lawrence is a little high and JC is a little low. Lawrence bout lost to belfry who you have at 10 and JC even though they are struggling are still about 5 or 6.

My apologies, I did not know which kid it was I just heard it from multiple people that one of their better players did that. I do not know Watts.

Are you actually serious? Watts did that?
I have no clue what kid it was. I just heard that one of their better players did that. I have heard good things about Watts so I suppose it is probably not him. This whole situation may not be true, but many people have told me about it.
