Congrats Cov Catholic! Best of luck moving forward.

Great effort JC you battled to the end.  You had some of the most exciting and entertaining games this season.  Best wishes to everyone on the team and staff.

Pretty well called game. Just made some costly penalties at the wrong time. Not at all what was expected. McCourt didn’t have the game I would have thought. Really contained him outside of a couple first down runs. Music really carried the offense. JC did try to throw the ball a few times. Maybe too soon at the end. Cov Cath’s offense never really got going.

My mom always said if you can’t say anything good about something to say nothing. So when it comes to the officiating, “no comment”.

The refs called everything tonight. Was told crew was from the 7th Region vicinity but I dunno if that's fact.

CCH had costly penalties called on them in both of their first 2 drives that definitely contributed to their going 3 and out with both drives. JC had the PF called on them on the play that went out of bounds onto their sideline. JC fans wanted a PF for unneccessary roughness called because they thought CCH's player continued driving the player out of bounds and the officials called a PF on JC instead. A CCH player came back to our sideline after the play and said a JC player on the sideline who wasn't in on the previous play shoved the CCH defender in the back and into another player and said it happened bang-bang but happened right in front of the side judge. Then on the following play JC was stopped for a loss and also had a holding penality that was declined.

2nd half CCH made a lot of adjustments on D which no one from JC has acknowledged on here yet. They were in JC's backfield a lot. Their D-ends kept contain much more effectively. JC had two false starts called on them. Both were on #75 and were obvious before the flag was even thrown. CCH and JC both had delay of game penalities in the 2nd half that were both legit. On the illegal procedure penalty there were two players in JC's backfield that went into motion which is illegal motion all day every day. There was a 4th down play where the holding flag was declined by CCH. The roughing the passer penalty, the QB took a 7 step drop and JC's rusher was 4 yards away from him when he released the ball and still put him on his butt. That's roughing the passer anywhere you play the game. CCH had 2 holding calls on their first 4Q drive that stopped the drive.

That was literally all of the penalties that took place in the game. I have eyes on the PF penalty personally but I trust that my player wasn't making up what happend and it'd certainly seem like there was an official who saw it based on the flag. Can personally vouch for the legitimacy og every other penality in the game in CCH and JC both. Watch the film. They were there. I know JC folks are upset because it's disappointing to lose and have your season ended, but how about a little credit to CCH instead of nothing but trying to make a case for the game being nothing but a JC win that the officials took away from them? There were costly penalties called on both teams tonight and every one of those penalties took place as called.

Congrats to JC on a solid season. You guys are a rushing machine and in today's game of football, that's rare and extremely impressive to watch executed like you do it.

I sat up on top of the pressbox last year filming the game and had the JC staff in my ear telling me how "Look at how obvious it is that we're the better team. It's obvious that CCH is only winning by a fluke." I had the dad of a really famous JC grad among the crew of guys saying that stuff. All while we were up on JC 24-0 and then 31-0. How about some JC folks acknowledging that a competitor that beat them might, I dunno, have actually won the game?

Geez OSH.  Cove Cath made some great adjustments.  Played well.  You can talk all you want about poor sportsmanship. I remember Corbin fans in the JC stands last year at Corbin getting escorted out due to saying stuff about JC PLAYERS. Other Corbin fans we were chatting with couldn’t believe some of the calls Corbin was the beneficiary of. Happens everywhere.  We all know Ashland will gets theirs next Friday lol.

I’m sorry…. But JC is the last group of people who can ever say anything about refs at an opponents field. They are a great program with a rich history and have almost perfected their offense. But you can’t be that one dimensional in this age. And that might not have been what cost them the game. I didn’t watch it. But I have watched several of their games at pville and saying anything about refs is comical. But they’ll get their groove back. They’ve got talent in that area.

I didn’t see any crazy calls. The penalties were pretty obvious. JC looked a little sloppy. They had 12 men on the field a couple times and had to burn a time out. The off sides were obvious. The unsportsmanlike penalty must have been obvious to the coaches. They were chewing their own player out before the ref said who it was on. The real issue is JC seemed to go away from what got them there. Belly. It’s obvious why they don’t pass. The first down JC threw with their backs in the ends zone was sloppy. The QB and running back ran into each other. I think it worked only because the dback was watching the mess. JC’s offense has been good all year but looked sloppy this game.

JC should’ve won this game. Everyone has gone on about their defense this year but when you only give up 14 points you are supposed to win. Being one dimensional on offense costs JC in big games and did again last night. They need to be less concerned with padding stats against weak opponents during the year and figure out how to make a deep playoff run. It’s been a few years since JC beat a quality opponent.

Agree. JC has or had some weapons to pass to but never working on the passing game in blow outs or other situations cost them. It’s about the blocking schemes and timing. when you never do it, you can’t do it when you need to.

Injuries seem to be a big problem over the past few years for JC. What is the issue?  It’s not all freak accidents. Is it their style of play?  If their physical style of play is causing their injuries then maybe they need to change some things up. Or are they just not coming into the season physically prepared?  Are they hitting the weights all season and doing things to help recovery?  If you can’t get through the season healthy then something is wrong.

They start early on weights.  They are doing the right things.  Physical style does take a toll. McCoart tweaked a hamstring.  We actually stayed pretty healthy this year as opposed to last. Just seemed to bit us at wrong time this year.  Cov Cath is well coached.  McCoart gets yards even when they snuff it out so that really hurt. Hats off to CC though.

2 of the cream of the crop teams last night in 4A playing and ended up being a good game. Covington Catholic is very well coached and it speaks volumes of what they lost last season to have the year they have had this season. Nice job! Very nice win and especially after being down and coming from behind and holding a offense like JC has. Johnson Central has had a equally great year even though the fanbase won't be happy but when you play 3 teams like Corbin, Covington Catholic and Ashland and have the chance to win each game and lose in the manner they did, you know you had your chances and ended up having a very good season. Some of the best games I have watched this year was the Johnson Central games because they were barn burners and came down to the wire.

Ain't gonna happen. They are just the worst of the worst(except for my buddy, King Kong. He's the best of the best, in sportsmanship.)

I'm an eastern Kentucky sports fan (albeit mostly Raceland and Ashland) so I was hoping for a Johnson Central win. Through the years I've watched many Ashland and Johnson Central games. I've even traveled down 23 a few times just to watch a "big" JC game against highly ranked opponents. I have experienced what you're referring to many times. Over the last two decades Johnson Central has had the better program. When the Tomcats would win a game there was always a reason, there just had to be. Usually officiating and/or injuries, but always a reason.

I met Jim Matney while taking summer classes at Morehead and I absolutely loved the guy. The culture he created there was just amazing to watch, so for me, the rivalry between Ashland and JC has always been friendly. Here's what I've found out though, coaches and people very close to the program and most people on message boards (like us) are not the best representation of the center of any fan base. I've talked to a few JC fans in the stands who exemplify this psychosis but the majority of them were truly open minded and just out enjoying a high school football game. That's my kind of people, no matter what colors they wear. Don't judge the whole nation by the few with the loudest voices, even if that program has a greater percentage of fans experiencing psychosis.

I was wrong. Lost 3 lineman. The kids with shoulder braces on seemed to be grabbing their shoulders all night. Also one had surgery. Seems pretty beat up to me. Maybe not as banged up as last year. But the central fans also posted on Facebook last night about how banged up they are. So they’re banged up but not as banged up. Either way they need to figure out what’s going on and find a way to fix it or keep having mediocre seasons.

This was not a mediocre season. Disappointing, yes - mediocre, no. JC lost close games to excellent teams. I will be pulling for Covington Catholic next week, but I expect the Colonels to lose by a fairly big margin. JC's defense held CC to 132 total yards last night.

Not having McCoart healthy makes a big difference in JC's offense. It's like watching a Denver Nuggets basketball game without  Jokic in the lineup. But I have always had a great deal of respect for Covington Catholic's program. Their players are always fundamentally sound and remain classy whether the team wins or loses.
