The Cardinals of GRC (5-6) will travel down I-64 about 20 miles and take the Broncos of Frederick Douglass (7-4) in the 2nd round of the Class 6A 2024 UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals. This is the 2nd time these two teams have played in the last 3 weeks. The last meeting GRC saw the Douglass Broncos win a running clock 35-0 win.
The Cardinals advanced with a hard fought 14-6 win over Lafayette while the Broncos had a running clock 42-0 win over Dunbar. This will make the 3rd meeting all-time between the two with the Broncos winning the first two contest by scores of 50-6 in 2023 and the above mentioned 35-0 this season. I look for another easy victory for the Broncos to advance to the state quarterfinals. The game is scheduled for 7:00pm on Friday Nov. 15th at "The Farm". The game can be seen on NFHS Network as of this post I am not sure if it will be on any other streaming services.

I'll be pulling for former Pburg assistant Joe Chirico and Pburg grad Jordan Ray, but GRC just isn't on Freddy D's level right now.

GRC leads Douglass 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Douglass has now tied it at 14 with GRC midway through the 2nd quarter.
Aveion Chenault has a 65 yard punt return of a touchdown and the Broncos now lead 21-14 with 3 minutes left in the first half.
Broncos score another touchdown late in the 2nd quarter and get a two point conversion to now lead GRC 29-14 with :45 seconds left in the first half. The Broncos have scored 29 unanswered points after trailing 14-0.
Broncos recover a GRC fumble with 23 seconds left and score again on a 15 yard pass to Chenault to now put the Broncos up 36-14 with :12.1 left in the half.

Douglass scores again on their first possession of the 2nd half and now lead GRC 42-14 and have scored 42 straight after trailing 14-0.
GRC gets a touchdown and fail on the two point conversion to make it 42-20. Then the Broncos score right back on the 2nd pass from Strautman to Chenault that is Chenault's 3rd touchdown of the night. The Broncos now lead the Cardinals 49-20 with just under 8 minutes to play.
