Paintsville at Pikeville 11/15
#1
Paintsville vs Pikeville. Thoughts?
#2
Alex Johnson could will them to 14-21 points. But pikeville too much for paintsville
#3
Johnson needs to get out of the blue and white and get to a football school. Johnson will help them score in this one but Pikeville will do what they want to do in this match up .

Following this logic there should be maybe 4 schools with football programs East of 75?
#5
Paintsville will score on the JV or a blown coverage and that’s about it. Pikeville will smack them even with all the injuries.
#6
Panthers comfortably.
#7
Pikeville

Everyone has waited all year for Pikeville to be “Pikeville” is this the week? Paintsville will have a good game plan and play inspired football. Most likely won’t be enough to give the Panthers a scare after halftime.
#9
This game will be over early. Pikeville rolls
#10
I think the Pikeville folks are going to be surprised by Johnson and his playmaking abilities. He makes everyone around him better, because without him, Paintsville just isn't very good, but when he's out there that team plays good ball. Pikeville is going to win and just has too much on both sides of the ball for the Tigers, but it wouldn't surprise me if Johnson keeps some drives alive and finds the endzone a time or two.

Panthers win, 35-14.

I think Johnson gets out and goes to Pikeville , Prestonsburg or even Belfry
#13
I think he stays because Paintsville may be a little better next year although they have very little coming up from junior high. Hazard and Pikeville lose some key contributors so they could battle in that district next season. Belfry and Pikeville won’t be an option for him if he is set on playing QB unless he can beat out kids who have been there. Don’t see him beating out Varney at Belfry and that’s a tough system to learn in an offseason. If he agrees to switch positions he may end up anywhere and he’s a good enough athlete to play a bunch of skill positions. Interesting possibility though. He will help wherever he plays.

IF he stays at Paintsville, that football program will still compete with most teams on their schedule, but they're about to graduate some of their best linemen, their leading rusher, and best defensive player. Paintsville is not going to be better next season than this season, I don't care who the coach is. No one is transferring in and little is coming up from the 8th grade.

Pikeville is going to continue to be Pikeville and Hazard is only going to keep getting better as well while Paintsville is going to remain as the 3rd best team in the district and they're going to see either of the two mentioned programs in the second round for at least the next two seasons.

Saying all that, it wouldn't shock me if Johnson goes looking for a better opportunity in the off season. Like you said, he will help wherever he plays. I know he loves football and baseball, I can only think of a few schools that are set up for future success in both that make sense for his skill sets.

Looks like the Tigers fed Stewart 30 times for 262 yards and 3 TDs to get the win over Middlesboro so with that success I would think they would go that same route vs Pikeville. Try to keep the chains moving, keep Pikeville offense off the field and shorten the game. Pikeville needs to come out sharp and take care of business early, or this one might get a little more tense than Panther fans would like.

I cannot wait to see this QB.
#17
Against Middlesboro last week, he didn't get to throw much. 4/7, 68 yds, 1 td, 1 int., and rushed for 60 yds on 7 scrambles.
#18
Hopefully Pikeville looks like Pikeville tonight and I think they will. 28-0 or 7 by halftime IMO. Anyone know status on Stevens?
Pikeville peaking at just the right time plus getting healthy is very bad news for Class A.
#19
I will be keeping an eye out on this one. Pikeville needs to come out and put this one away early with a commanding 14-21 point lead. Then finish off with 28+ win. Don’t let Paintsville hang around.

Can Paintsville hang around and keep it a game?

Another wasted week of playoffs

Sure. But Tigers would need some help from Pikeville to do so. To get to the 4th quarter Paintsville needs to be at least 2+ in the turnover column and benefit from a couple special team blunders by Pikeville (it has happened before).

60% Panthers big
25% 14-28 margin Panther win
12% one score game
3% Tigers win

Paintsville is a decent 1A team with a lot of talent at the skill positions, but not decent enough to keep this game close.

Pikeville 35
Paintsville 8

Always the voice of reason. Only critique is no chance at 9-13 point Panther win so I'll go 25% 9-28 margin Panther win.
j/k spot on analysis IMO.

I don’t even think it is a 3% chance Paintsville can win. If these teams played 100 times, Pikeville wins 99 and the other one, their bus would break down on the way. They are at home so that eliminates that. Paintsville does have some nice athletes at the skill spots but Pikeville’s are better at every position and the lines are not close. Literally would take a catastrophe.

^ 2020 may ring a bell. Similar matchup too. Except I don’t think Paintsville has a Max Johnson or Andrew Ford. They may have some good skills kids but not on Maxs level. This game is similar because in 2020 Hazards quarterback didn’t play in the first game of the regular season matchup and played in the playoffs. So Pikeville better be ready to take Paintsvilles best shot.

That was a huge fluke but good win for Hazard in 2020. They won the game. Pikeville didn’t show up that night and Hazard wanted it. Let Paintsville get themselves a ship which is nice for them too. But this is 2024 and a different Pikeville team. Older this year and I don’t see that happening. Definitely beatable but not by Paintsville. Pikeville puts a running clock on them in 2nd quarter if they didn’t have 4 starters out. Johnson helps them but it’s not enough. Pikeville beat them 41-0 at Paintsville and sat several players and honestly played poorly. They will have a few back on the field tonight too so it really just doesn’t look great for Paintsville.

I agree with a lot of this but in 2020 the week after Hazard beat Pikeville, Paintsville absolutely dominated Hazard. Hazard didn’t have a 1st down until mass subs were made after halftime. It would have taken Pikeville’s A+ game to beat Paintsville that night. Playoffs are sometimes about who is playing their best at that time and nobody in 1A was playing better than Paintsville.

As for tonight, I agree with your assessment.
