Coaches matter, I guess. (See Johnson Central for further evidence).

Coaches do matter, and I am one who will speak my mind about that, BUT, that game was lost by the players. We couldn’t tackle, couldn’t block ANYBODY, and absolutely could not catch the ball. The SOPHOMORE QB looked pretty darn good. We had 1 receiver that dropped at least 5 passes, two of them right in his hands and he bobbles them right into the defenders hands for 2 interceptions. I also saw ALOT of lackadaisical effort by a few players as well, and that part could possibly be blamed on coaching.

I'm not surprised. Mayfield lost a bunch of talent from last year and Graves returned a bunch of key kids. Graves should have won more of these games in the last 16 years but choked a few away. Mayfield is young and this will probably be good for them. Historically, when they have slow starts they get it turned around by year's end. It's a good sign if their QB played well. Graves has a veteran QB and should contend for the district if they stay healthy.

I was a little surprised by this game. I don't keep up with high school football like I used to do, but I thought Mayfield would've taken this game.

Congratulations to Graves Co!

Yeah from what I saw I don’t think scheme was the issue, just execution.

I did think the QB should have been given more passes deep and across the middle, way to many line of scrimmage screens for my taste.

This was the shocker of the week for me

I agree with all of this. I was able to tune in for the fourth quarter and seen both picks. Both passes were good balls that was bobbled right into the defenders hands. Mayfield will be fine. Sometimes the ball bounces the other way, or the calls go the other way.

Almost something you NEVER see at Mayfield.  Hard to replace a Morris.

While I agree with HARD TO REPLACE A MORRRIS, I mean how can anyone argue that with their records, and I do put PART of the blame on the coaches, I think there was 4 or 5 last year starters that we’re playing like ( we are defending state champions y’all gotta respect us) and GC smacked them in the throat. As much as I hate losing, I think this game was needed to wake some guys up, it’s gonna be a tuff year as it is, but if those 4 or 5 guys don’t come off their self perception of greatness, Mayfield will be an early out in the playoffs .I truly expect the coaches will right the ship, but even if they do I believe The ceiling for Mayfield will be reaching the semi’s, and wouldn’t be surprised if Murray knocks them out in the district playoffs.
