Ashland @ Raceland

Tomcats being overlooked by many in 4A and the area. Strader and company should have little resistance lighting up the scoreboard. Ashland wins going away 49-14.

Ashland vs Raceland 8/23. Thoughts?

Ashland big

42-14

As an old fan of both teams and a Raceland resident for three decades here are my thoughts: Ashland, on paper and through the eyes of common sense, should be favored. Contrary to the thoughts of a lot of my fellow Raceland fans this is not one of the games that the Tomcats circle on their schedule. Do they want to win? Of course, but they don't start up the fire trucks and form a parade of nations through town when they do. From a motivational standpoint Raceland has the edge. The Rams have nothing to lose in this game. Coach Salmons does a great job of early preparation and motivating his teams for week one match-ups. It's not my intention to take anything away from coach Tackett, it's just a more difficult task when your supposed to win. I do feel that Ashland's talent, experience, and athleticism will prevail but the score will remain close for a while. If the game starts with Raceland stumbling then it could get out of hand quickly but I don't think that will happen. In the end I think both teams win, Ashland on the scoreboard and Raceland with their young team gaining confidence from competing with a better team. Score? Hmmm....34-14ish??

Ashland wins running clock. Sorry RAM-A-DEVIL

I'm curious as to how this Ashland team will look this year. I really think the coaching hire has made a impact on the team and how they are playing. I watched last year's big matchup between Johnson Central and Ashland. It was a shootout. I think Ashland will continue having success and getting better and better. Raceland is still a contender in 1A. I like where this game is on the schedule and will only make them get better.

As much as hate to I agree with 64 SUR pulling for Raceland to win even though they said they looked better in the last scrimmage they are still young and will make mistakes and Ashland may make them pay but Good luck to the Rams

Tomcats will put Raceland behind them really quickly.

Assland 42

Rams have a long ways to go before they get to their potential this year. List of early season losses will mean the Rams will be on the road in the playoffs. 1A is so bad it won’t matter. The Rams will make another deep playoff run. The key to the season is keeping the young Rams hungry and willing to work through their mistakes early in the season.

I also think a big thing early on is keeping their heads straight after a demoralizing start with 3 potential running clock losses right out the gate.  In this first part of the season I see Letcher as the must win game to keep morale up.  Worst case scenario is to start off 0-4 before the schedule lightens up as at that point they could lose games everyone thinks they will win because breaking down mentally from the early beatdowns.

As for this game, Raceland has to survive the 1st half and make it to the locker room in a 1 score game.  If they can do that then I can see the final score being closer than many of us think.  I’ve also seen a trend in this series where Ashland goes off in the second quarter and squashes Raceland in the 2nd half which is a very possible outcome this season.

I’ll give you the experience but where are the better players?
#17
Ashland won’t running clock them but

Jennings
Davis
Ashby
Strader

All better players than what Raceland has.
#18
I don’t think so. I watched the Jackson scrimmage. Strader gets pressured he throws it up for grabs. As far as the other guys have never heard of them
#19
^^^Strader is the only one I'll give you but he is enough. Raceland is in for some growing pains, they will be in the hunt in November but Ashland 35 Raceland 13

I’ll take stiltner over Jennings.bigger stronger and faster

So the guys that combined for over 2,000 yards last year aren’t as good as the players on the Raceland roster? Then Coach Salmons should be questioned for not playing them last year

After watching Ashlands scrimmages, I’m changing my prediction. This game is a toss up for me. It being at home, I’m now taking the Rams by a FG. Ashland SHOULD win, but I don’t think they will. They are not the typical sideline to sideline animals on defense they have been the last few years. Rams surprise a lot of people this week.

I was more watching Ashland than the other teams. Ashland just didn’t fly to the football like they usually do

Raceland will win they are playing at home right Jet

Haha P1 if they don't it won't be the refs' fault lol

But seriously "bigger, stronger and faster" and "Ashland just doesn't fly to the ball like they used to" is way too much hoping and praying...

64SUR said it best, pulling for Raceland but will take a miracle.
