Lawrence County (4-1) @ Belfry (3-3)
#31
I think Belfry still has a bad taste in their mouth since last year when LC beat them for the district title. Belfry will want to prove that they are back in control of the district. Need a good game from woolum again and belfry really needs some type of pass game back. Prob won’t happen till varney is back.

Belfry 41
LC 29

Patriot’s tough talk on his Blackberry might be offensive to some if he’d learned anything about punctuation while he was at Harvard.
Anyway, LC fans know well the team is the only proof and that is in their performance on the field. The players know this, too.
There might be one or two new kids in the lineup who are still scared of Belfry, but the rest are defending district champs who spanked that Pirate booty last time they saw each other. Lol
Might not happen again this season - if I were a betting man, I’d put my money on a healthy Belfry to win Friday. If the Pirates have to be one dimensional, they will be runners up again. And that would be a year or two ahead of schedule for LC.
Either way, I look for a good game and a great learning experience for freshmen and first year starters playing the best our district has had to offer for decades. The Pirates have had this LC fan’s respect for Haywood’s entire tenure. Even before he mined the mountains and turn lumps of coal into championship diamonds.
The cliche you gotta beat the best to be the best is true and LC gets an opportunity Friday. Hope both teams enter and remain healthy.

Lc's defense holds belfry to 14 points in this one

No seriously, I'm just a Waterboy so what do I know!!
Here's a fun fact for ya tho!!
LC's first year featuring a whole new offensive scheme (spread offense, shotgun plays) might not be new to most but it is to this young team..
The dawgs always ran up the gut/belly type offense since before time, but where did that get them?? Exactly nowhere since everyone was doing it in the 90's!! They are finally making some changes. From the Dteam-Ateam, Middle school-highschool they are all running the same playbook!
Will that hurt them just this year being the first year at this offense? Maybe, but Maybe not also!!! Because I know they have plenty of power to drive thru teams all season, execution is the key role in this situation
New offensive coordinator that's been with these highschool kids since elementary school!
Win, Lose, or most likely no draw at Pond Creek Stadium lol. This will be a drag out fight,
D is fast as hell just like Belfry, no team been able to run on them all year! It all comes down to which team can execute on the offensive side of the ball IMO!!

Honestly, as a Bulldog fan and sports announcer, I’m looking forward to this one, the same way I do every year. I love this battle between two solid programs.

What is the status of Varney?

LC's starting defense hasn't given up more than 2 TD's in a game this year.  They've been stout against the run.  Offensively, I think the Shelby Valley game will prove to be an anomaly--our starting QB was coming off an illness and clearly wasn't 100%, and we had snap issues all night (as in, probably cost us the game snap issues) that have been fixed.  O is averaging 38 ppg in the last 3.  They've moved the ball pretty much at will, but they continue to shoot themselves in the foot with penalties and mistakes.  Big step up in competition this week though.

IF LC plays relatively clean on O, and IF Belfry continues to be one-dimensional on offense, I can see the Dawgs squeaking it out 26-21 (they'll miss an extra point, then fail on the 2 point conversion trying to make up for it).

A lot of jawing being done by the LC faithful.

Not really.  If LC continues to make dumb mistakes on offense and Belfry comes out 100% healthy, I can see Belfry by 2+ scores. I think most non-LC fans have Belfry big in this one.  All I'm saying is that LC is capable of winning the game if things go their way.  That's not something anybody could realistically say 3-4 years ago.

Who’s jawing? LC posters aren’t picking them to score 40 or slam Belfry. We know better. We’ve gone to Pond Creek and had a fairly decent team before and gotten smacked.
Nothing but respect up here unless you’re counting the ones who’d back the Dawgs against the 85 Bears. You’ve got the coaching advantage, home field advantage, flag advantage, a two legged tank in Dre Young, athletes in Varney and Woolum and Caudill etc.
We’re just happily noting it is a tighter gap than 10 years ago!
Good luck, good health to all on Friday and beyond.

That’s right, no jawing at all. We all know the battle, we’ve witnessed it for many years. Looking forward to Friday. See you then!

Here we go the 2 year contract with Raceland ran out last year why didn’t LC renew it and I am not going to type much because of my punctuation that English teacher was crying about and I don’t have a blackberry I have a flip phone and never went to Harvard but I can tell a weak schedule when I see one plus they would not have won last year if Belfry don’t put it on the ground 4 times and LC might win this game but like I was saying it will be on the field not behind this keyboard

Umm okkk?? Lol who cares about our schedule, it's football. Let the kids play. It'll be good for LC to play a team like belfry!!

Pretty much same choice as last year aye? Guess we lose some every now and then!!

Yes it is and I still take Belfry but after that game I congratulated LC and I will this year too if they win but let’s see how many of you great spread offense gurus do the same. Plus I figured Belfry has already faced a better spread offense than LC has

They have got over the hump last year. Is belfry's QB back to playing this week?

You did and that's the way it should be man. And I respect that.  Staying humble is what alot of people don't get.

Some Truewords here. This is an opinion based forum. Very few facts thrown out. Here is a big one though, in the last 19 games it is Belfry 18-1. For those that only remember the last one that’s great. I saw someone post earlier that the matchup is equaling out?  Opinions very and they all stink.

This is the $10,000.00 question.

Even if someone knew the answer I don't expect it to be shared this early in the week.

The fear of Varney playing automatically forces LC to have to take numerous practice reps for the different looks Belfry brings. Even if Varney is out, I would expect Belfry to make that practice time to be spent in preparation.

If Varney doesn't play I think this is a toss-up and may even lean toward LC by a TD.

If Varney does play at 100% I like Belfry by a TD or two.

I respect that too. I think these teams match up really well. I’ve said this all year, LC has athletes that not many schools do in class 3A this side of Lexington or CAL.

I have no idea I am just trying to get you LC faithful in a tizzy and it looks like did a pretty good job

Secrets ……mum is the word on pond creek. I’ve heard that put up a portable dome over Haywood Stadium in preparation for LC.

Just like to see them be 100% healthy when the Dawgs rolls down 119

Lol no one’s in tizzy. It’s just tough to decipher your post for an old dude like me who isn’t fluent in textanese.
The 18-1 is what stands out. I honestly believe it will be 19-1 if Belfry is healthy. If the weather is bad I think it favors ground and pound offense.
I think LC is good enough when they’re on to win this at Belfry. They’re also young enough and sloppy enough to get slapped silly in this one.

Anyone who got shutout by Valley is suspect. Valley has given up 148 points in their last 3 games. If Belfry has their QB, they will roll.

Lol
We can compare ailments and scars on Friday.
I don’t blame forum posters for thinking LC is suspect for losing to SV, much less being shut out by them. I think it is the Bulldogs’ most embarrassing loss in years. If they get blown out by Belfry, I think it could be counted as revealing. If they compete - win or lose - then SV is an anomaly.
I think there’s a lot to like about both teams in this one. Playoffs are a long way off and it will be interesting to see if either can accomplish anything noteworthy.

I ain't looking too deep into that SV score.

For one, I think that was maybe the first game that LC's QB had came back from injury.

Secondly, flukey scores happen early in the season.

I remember a pretty bad Belfry team taking a really good LC team with Dante Wright in 2001 to Overtime in a game they probably were 4-5 TD underdogs in. I also remember a couple LC teams playing Belfry to the wire in games Belfry should have beaten them for 4-5 TD's. One example being 2008 when Belfry was a dominant force all season and LC went winless 0-11, yet LC played them to the Final Possession 20-13.

Simply put, early season injuries meet a playbook that isn't fully developed and also a rhythm that isn't achieved yet.

It is clear whatever hiccups LC was experiencing when they played SV has sorted themselves out for the most part.
