Hazard @ Martin County (8/18)
#1
exciting team in Inez, but a tall task week 0. what do you all think? i'll provide more when I see how tonights scrimmage played out. preliminary report was not a good showing for the Cardinals tonight. wanted to add a poll but i dont know how.
#2
How did they play tonight
#3
Hmmm
#4
Who did they scrimmage?
#5
I'll take Hazard in this one.

first id say that the martin county vs shelby valley scrimmage was the dumbest thing ive seen this year. to scrimmage a team that you play in 3 weeks is dumb, but then to go play a real game format and waste one of your scrimmages in a scenario where you only get 20 offensive plays in.............. dumb.

with that said not a lot of defense was played. martin county is going to be a team that thumps who they should beat and struggles in close games unless they really focus on little things. that offensive line can win one on one battles up front but getting to the second level and making a block in a struggle for them. they dont play fundamental defense and their corners line up in track stances. shelby valley ran the ball at will a lot on them but to the credit of martin co they mostly tightened up in the red zone. the plus side for the cardinals is 23 is a dude

im not sure that hazard couldve looked worse friday night. they made bell co look like a million bucks. losing johnson seems to be a big loss because i dont see a lot of dudes on that team. quarterback was okay, looks to be a tough runner!

but with that said im still not sold on martin county to definitely win the game.... hazard can stay in it by keeping martin county off the field. not sure the bulldogs can stop the cardinals and i do feel more confident in martin county to break the big one, but one or two turnovers or bad penalties like they had in the scrimmage and hazard can play TOP ball and walk out a winner. especially if they catch martin county asleep and hit a deep ball or two.

if i had to put a betting line down, id say martin county -7.5. thats the closest ill get to a preidction

Going with Hazard in this one

Talking to the Hazard folks, I understand Hazard is low on numbers and their QB left the last scrimmage with an ankle injury. I’m gonna go

Martin 28
Hazard 14

Hazard played bad but I don’t think no team going to make Bell Co look good Bell Co is a Top 4 team in 3A

Martin didn't scrimmage SV so I don't know what game you watched.

I’ll pick against the dawgs any chance I get.

Martin-35
Hazard- 21

Hazard and Martin County ( Sheldon Clark) haven’t played since 2014. This will be the fifth matchup between the schools. Hazard has won all the previous matchups.
#13
sorry i stand corrected. i thought blue jerseys SV field was valley - im relieved because i was really confused as to why youd scrimmage a team on the schedule for 3 weeks away lol remains the same that whoever decided on a full game format made a bad decision.

So they scrimmaged Betsy Layne? What was the score on that?
#15
i cant tell you a score because i dont believe in keeping them in scrimmages but i can tell you it was close and martin probably scored more but as far as down to down i dont think id say one team was head and shoulders better but martin broke a few long ones

hazard fans keep us up to date on the injury report this week

Martin vs BL
Varsity 7-7
Junior Varsity 7-0 MC

Also BL was without one of their big players.
BL was in red zone 2 times and couldn’t punch it in. Martin County scored every time they were in end zone. 1 time in varsity and 1 time JV.

big if true.

Running clock with no play clock was not a good idea. MC time of possession in the first half was probably less than 6 minutes. BL took extremely long to get plays called. They had the ball for 11 minutes of the first quarter and ran 15 plays at most. Not a great format. MC’s varsity had two offensive possessions and a 2 minute drill at the end of the first half.
