Answering 2 people here. I saw televised game of last week. OC is terrible. The other was Campbell Co game. I think with OC and SO being such a rivalry. Might be reason of a 16 to 6 score. And SO just could have had an off night. Can Higglands win. Yes if there are turnovers. I still say HHS has to score at least 35 points. To other comment. You can take it to the bank on the confidence of the coaches. These kids are playing on pride right now. Without their help.

Well I was trying to be nice, but you are right, OC was terrible. That is why I find it hard to pick SO beating HHS bad when they only beat OC 16-6. It would have to have been a REALLY off night to beat HHS by 20 plus. I think HHS score 35, if the right QB plays, SO will not be able to defend the deep pass.

Over the years when highlands was dominating some posters said other teams need to work harder to beat them. Now with it on the other foot highland players and coaches need to work harder to win. Hope south wins and highland needs to work harder for next year.

Two of Muellers favorite words were âTry Harderâ He said it everyday. I think he took those 2 words with him when he left. Losing him is a huge factor in the success of the last 3 years. This coaching staff is lost without him. And MANY people agree.

I don't think they necessarily worked harder than everyone else in the mueller era either. Highlands enjoyed the luxury of having stacked rosters with often unmatched talent and a legendary coach....and they benefitted from Covington Catholic not having a coach for the better part of a decade.

I think a lot of teams are working harder now. Teams that use to not think about football in the off season, now focus year round. HHS biggest problem is lack of athletes in last 2-3 classes and losing a Great coach who you cannot replace. HHS was blessed with D1 QBs for 10 year swing, which makes all the difference in the world in HS football. Last 3 years QB position has been way down. And this year best QB is sitting on the bench (played last week due to injury to starter). HHS always worries too much about starting SR instead of best at QB position. Neighbor who is on staff stated Head coach has no motivational skills, where as the guys would run through a brick wall for Mueller.

I have noticed a different attitude in the players. It is not all about football and if they lose it is not that big of a deal. In fact heard several state they would not be to unhappy to lose to avoid playing COV Cath and taking a beating from them. Would never hear that prior to this current coaching staff.
Even though Mueller said Weinrick was just like him. That’s not a true statement He’s nothing like Mueller. And Highlands players saying they don’t care if they loose to SO. Partly validates that. This team has motivate itself. Playing on pure pride. With Mueller their record would be better.

It was discussed endlessly prior to new coaching staff taking over and endlessly last two years about the drop in athletic boys in a couple straight classes, people just want to refuse to believe this and blame it all on coaching. Would HHS have won more games w/Mueller coaching? Probably, but still would not have been very good teams. If Mueller was coach, I can not see Highlands losing the two games they did this year when they had comfortable leads with only a couple mins left in the game and allowed ridiculous come backs by the other teams. So I think lack of athletes is number one reason for drop off, but coaching also is playing a part.

Reading the post that several Highlands players wonât be disappointed if they loose cause of Cov Cath. If they play Friday with Cov Cath dancing around in their head. They will get beat.

I'm doubting any player is fine with losing to cov cath. I refuse to believe that. Even if that were true....that's not a coaching issue.

With a first round bye in the Class 5-A playoffs, South Oldham football reverted back to fundamentals in practice while nursing several injuries as the Dragons prepare for Highlands Friday night.
Keaton Martin has rushed for over 1,000 yards for South Oldham this season.

Before the bye week, South Oldham had played eight weeks in a row, which took a physical toll on the players.
“It really came at a great time,” South Oldham coach Jamie Reed said of the bye week.
Though the time off has benefited the Dragons off the field, Reed doesn’t know if the week away from facing an opponent will mean his team will start fast or slow. He hopes his team can come out of the gate as soon as the bell rings.
“The goal is to hit the ground running versus a team of Highlands caliber, we can’t wait to feel it out one or two series,” Reed said. “That is the unknown, how we are going to come out of it. I hope we are fresh and fast.”
In Highlands’ 34-7 victory over Oldham County last week, Bluebird quarterback Grady Cramer threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns while Cooper Schwalbach rushed for 106 yards on 12 carries.
Cramer started in place of injured starting quarterback Carl Schoellman, who has thrown for 1,633 yards and 13 touchdowns this year. Schoellman could play on Friday night.
South Oldham, a team that averages 290 yards rushing per game, could find some room to run against Highlands. Despite trailing for most of the game and attempting 32 passes, Oldham County rushed for 158 yards last Friday.
Keaton Martin surpassed the 1,000 mark for the second straight season against Shelby County while Colton Bowlden (452 yards), quarterback Drew Zaubi (351 yards) and JT Benson (270 yards) are capable ball carriers as well.
Not everyone has been in favor of South Oldham’s bye week. Highlands head coach Brian Weinrich told Fort Thomas Matters, a northern Kentucky media outlet, that he wouldn’t exchange film with South Oldham since they were able to watch their game against Oldham County last Friday.
“It’s just so frustrating that the KHSAA allows a team to have a buy in the 5A playoffs when they’re in a six-team district and we have to go out here and play a game,” Weinrich said to Fort Thomas Matters following the game against Oldham County. “I can not believe they allowed that to happen. They talk about fairness and they talk about safety.”

You say that the last 3 years of QB's is way down? Correct me if I am wrong here, but Hergott got a full ride to Division 1 Central Michigan and Gosney is a QB at Hanover.
If that neighbor coach is sharing that information with you, then maybe he needs to remove himself from the staff as he is likely a big part of the problem.

There were plenty of athletic kids in the last several classes to continue to compete at a very high level if there was not this stigma that kids would only play on one side of the ball. There have been kids placed on the field the last several years that had ZERO business getting into a game much less playing meaningful snaps. This thought process cost them a trip to the state finals three years ago and last year going under .500
There is more than ample talent on that roster, but it takes the willingness of the staff to take a step back and give things a look.
Just an example of the disconnect on the current coaching staff. Kevin Siple was brought onto the coaching staff this year as a volunteer and has had little to no contact with the head coach. That my friends speaks volumes.

How is Weinrich still the head coach? Sad to see the demise of Highlands football.

If you are trying to compare those two to the other QB's, that is a huge stretch. Hergott got the scholly thanks to help from ex Highlands alum on coaching staff, shocked if he ever sees playing time. Did you see him play? Do you remember the grumblings for QB change?
Hanover DIII, big difference. Great for these two to get to continue to play, but lets not say they are anywhere near level of play of the others.

That Neighbor has not made any comments about the QB's, that is all my opinion and others who have been watching the last decade plus. He made comment about coaches motivating players, he is in the locker room and observes the coaching and pregame/half time speeches and adjustments, he said it is night and day difference; Mueller would have guys ready to run through a way, and he said Brian is not a talker, very laid back and basically just says lets go it is time. He is a friend of Brian's and likes him, just stated he is very different kind of coach but that not many are like Mueller.

Once again it sounds like you want to say that HHS should have continued to win titles and it is all coaching problems. Yes HHS has some talented kids athletically, but number of those kids is way down and they do not possesses the difference maker players they have had in the past.

He was very upset that South Oldham had a bye and was able to sit in stands and scout last weeks game. Bunch of sour grapes if you ask me. Plenty of film on internet of both teams. HHS broadcasting students have been doing their games and Pagasus has been doing South Oldhams games.

A scholly is a scholly is a scholly. How many college snaps did Houliston play? How about McCoy? I will wait. Do you think either of those guys that I mentioned benefitted from the talent pool around them?

Define "difference maker". You say talent down, yet they win in 2014, should have been in the finals in 2015 and 2016 would not have been the trainwreck that it was if some changes in philosophy were made.

Highlands has problems in both coaching and talent level. There have been far fewer stud players for the past 3 seasons. Each team has had a few, but not the across the board talent level they had in the streak years. That said, if the Coach would play the best players where they need to play and on both sides of the ball, the past three seasons could have been vastly better. Weinrich needs to play the best players regardless of what class they are in, how long they have been in the system, or how much he likes them personally. HHS also needs to replace the OC if they want to get back on track.
