13th Region Summer Rankings

HCS Wrote:Sports writers are used to criticism, but I don't know about including his daughter. I know every team in Kentucky would love to have her. She can play - probably the best in the 13th Region.

I'm going to disagree with you on this. She may very well be the best player in the region. I've never seen her play. In fact, I've never been to a girls high school softball game in my life. With that said, I'm not being critical of her. You missed my point. If awards were given and he made or helped make the call then that's wrong....period! By doing that (if in fact he did) then he has opened himself up for criticism. Many folks would just give him a pass (and rightfully so...if she deserves it she deserves it), but he's so unlikeable and seems so biased against certain players and schools that the criticism is almost justified in my mind.

I'm going with this:

1. Corbin. Great coach and great player.
2. Knox. Fun to watch. Talented. Best starting 5
3. South Laurel. Lots of good players. 2 great ones.
4. Harlan Co. strong, experienced. Run their system. Well-coached.
5. Bell Co. homer pick. Young athletic. Finally some excitement.
6. Whitley. Big school. Great guard in Johnson.
7. Clay. Got good young guys.
8. North Laurel. Big school. Life after Broughton will be interesting.
9-12. Lynn Camp, Harlan, Jackson, Barbourville

Don't sleep on Lynn Camp, Watched them this summer and Dinky may have something cooking next season.
#64
North Laurel will be better than folks think. Several kids will have break out years for them and Adam Sizemore will run the show and look to score more this year. I got North more in the 3-4 spot to start year. Another year in Dinky system will make Lynn camp a team most will not want to play.

She is a very good softball player but I must point out she won't the athlete of the year award. The Price girl from Corbin was more deserving in my opinion. Averaged double figures in basketball and was maybe the most valuable asset to that team. She actually put up a .627 batting average for Corbin this year and was impressed me the most for Corbin in softball. The key word for this award is "athlete"

1. Corbin- with transfers will be tops
2. Knox Central- not sure the coaching can handle Corbin with transfers but definitely 2nd best team
3. Clay
4. South
5. HC
6. North
7. LC
8. WC
The rest of the bunch

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't Clay lose a lot last year? I can't imagine them being 3rd.
#68
hard to get used to the fact that clay isn't really clay anymore. I'd say South is 3rd, then Harlan County, then put the next 3 -4 in a hat and draw them out. the region should be really good this year. Best chance for Knox maybe since the mid 90s
#69
Clay lost three starters. They played Harlan County pretty tough at South but lost. Whitley beat them at North in the scrimmages I saw. They have some good sophomores and freshmen on the way and may be there by March, but they aren't top 4 to start the year.
#70
1 Corbin. Not even close.
2 Knox. Got enough returning to maybe challenge corbin.
3. South. Young bunch has to step up to stay at 3. Ramey will get his. Anders has to be more aggressive.
4. North They lost a lot but I think they will be better than last year. Bigs have to play and not foul. Sizemore will step up.
5 Harlan co. Lost a lot but return a team that plays team ball.
6 Whitley co Johnson will keep them in games.
Clay Lynn camp Jackson barbourville are a Toss up.
#71
Harlan and Bell are in the tossup section.
#72
I think Harlan County is top 4 going in. They have a lot of experience back. But them Bobcats will be on their heels down the stretch!
#73
I see this as a 2 team race, Knox and Corbin. Harlan County won't be a top tier team after losing as much as they did. Look back, it's those kids they lost that carried them in post season. South and North will both be ahead of them.

I think Harlan County is still a top 4 team. Along with SL, Corbin, and Knox. I can't see North being that great with all they lost. I think Bell and Whitley will be better than North. Knox will be very good but also they did lose 2 really solid experienced post players. So they have a couple question marks. Corbin looks like the big favorite right now.

Will they ?

I'm pretty sure they won't be in the top five to start the year. Coach Sizemore will bring them along pretty quickly, but they did lose one of the top players in the state and another three-year starter. I thought people would take a little pressure off them this year for once, but I guess not.
#78
good point HCS, but either Harlan County or North have to be there...... I think it's a tossup between those 2
#79
North won't be that high to start the year. HCHS will be fourth with Whitley, Clay and North in the next group. Harlan County played Knox and South very close in the summer and beat Knott and everyone in the 14th over at the Hazard camp.
#80
I think North beat Whitley 2 times this summer. they did lose to HCC at North. they also beat a Very good Clark Co team at south this summer. I believe they will be a top 5 team in the 13th. they score a lot different than in the past but should be fun to watch. Like Playmaker said people will see a different Adam Sizemore than they have seen the last couple years.
#81
Hard to believe a state champion in two sports is not your female athlete of the year.
#82
Go Colonels !
#83
1. Corbin- with transfers will be best team by 10-15 points- Team has best player and supporting cast
2. Knox Central
3. Clay
4. South
5. HC
6. North
7. LC
8. WC
