Im still waiting to be enlightened about this coach that has only averaged 1 title per decade. Im sure I could think of ten coaches that has did that or better, but the floor is yours go ahead and talk him up like yall always do.

One title per decade? Um are we talking about the same coach?

That's one way to spin it....

The other way is to say he is averaging winning a Title every 3 years since 2003 and is the most successful coach in Rural Kentucky history.

If you still can't think of his name you can either check the top of the Kentucky All-Time Winningest Coaches list... that or look at #13 on the list of Most Winningest Active Coaches in the Country.

Killbilly knows how good his Cards have been since 2003... 4 State Titles, 3 Runer-Ups, and they have only missed the Semi-Finals a remarkable two times...........

Belfry in that span? 4 Titles, 4 Runner-Ups, and only missed the Semi-Finals Once.

For a small school to have a better resume than his Cardinals in that time frame... well they must be pretty well coached I would think

Mayfield has 11 titles in the same time frame Your coach has been at belfry. You conveniently used a timeframe that has Mayfields worst 2 years in 30 years in your argument. 4 titles in 40 years is 1 time every ten year average. If you want to twist it to just the last 12 years and say he has 4 in the last 12 years, how about doing the last 5 years as I know a coach that has 4 in the last 5 years. I do love the banter though.

We're just twisting numbers however we pleased I thought.... Big Grin

Last 5 years works nice as well.... Haywood has 2 Titles and 3 Runner-Ups.... considering only he and Mayfield's coach are the only two to complete that task I once again would say that's a pretty darn good measuring stick for an accomplishment wouldn't you?

I didn't think Mayfield had 2 titles and 3 runners up in the last 5 years, I though they had 4 titles, and 1 runner up in the last 5 years. I must be losing my memory since I thought id went to 3 straight title games that they had won. I will agree belfry has been pretty good. I just like trolling belfry threads. In all seriousness I think Belfry, and Mayfield has some odds against them this year. Boyle County, and Desales are both beast this year. Your coach might need to call Joe Morris, and learn how to pass.

Have them trade numbers... Haywood can teach him how play shut down Defense in the Finals after that Williamsburg debacle. Wink

Seriously though I think both have a monster waiting in their path,,, but I also think both aren't crying themselves to sleep at night thinking they have no shot either.

Belfry - 0
NCC - 0

I'd love to see Belfry win this one by a big margin, but NCC will probably cancel the game like they do at the freshman/JV levels.
#71
Should be a good test for the Pirates with the freshman QB a chance to really make a name for himself against upgraded competition. NCC will provide a toughness that Belfry needs to face in their third game. Beginning of a really good 4 weeks of competition for Belfry starting with NCC, then Pikeville, Knoxville Catholic, and a road trip to Cabel Midland. A lot of questions about this team will be answered in the next four games with a chance to establish itself, as a team, as the definite favorite in the eastern part of the state to get to BG.
#72
BTW, I like the Pirates 28-14.

Belfry by 21. Paul Woodhay will have them ready.

Belfry 28 to 14

If NewCath keeps up with this 1980's offense, then they will not be beat Belfry. They need to take advantage of the height advantage on the outside and Smith's quickness in space. If they stick with two tights out of the I, it plays right into Belfry's hands. Their DLine is too good. NewCath HAS TO BE up by 14+ at half. Belfry will wear them down in the 2nd if they don't make Belfry get out of their comfort zone.

Every program strives to be like the great Whitley County. I hop Mayfield finds that level of success 1 day. Where all playing catch up.

MountainSports Wrote:Imo NCC is around 5-7th best 2A school and belfry is the best 3A school and two time back to back state champions. If they don't beat them by at least 28, it's going to be a tough 3 more weeks. Again not saying NCC isn't good.. but belfry is just better.

I know Ekualum you try to see it as unbiased as possible, which is great. But Campbell county is not that good and they kept it close.

No offense but I don't think NCC has been that low in 2a maybe ever. Even in a down year they are top 3. They were down last season and they still went state, but I expect an improved NCC team this season, but not enough to beat Belfry. If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure Campbell beat NCC last season so that right there probably shows some improvement if you ask me.

One thing we can both agree on killbilly, we both want our respective programs to reach the same heights as the Whitley Co program.

NCC is down this year Belfry wins 35-14

Wish I could be at this one, but have to support my Blackcats. Pulling for the Pirates in what should be a hard fought game.

I don't think it will be that close. Id be surprised if belfry didn't win by over 21.

If Belfry had all starters in I would agree, but NCC defense will be a huge step up from what the freshman QB faced last week. I think he will have a fine career, but this will be a tough test for him this week.

I believe Belfry will be too big and too physical for NCC. I think the game will be competitive through two and a half quarters, and then the physicality of Belfry will take it's toll on NCC. Belfry wins 35-21. Good luck to the Pirates.

On a side note, there seems to be a lot of teams playing freshman quarterbacks this season. Is Belfry's starter hurt, or did the kid win the job in the summer?

Belfry's starter is suspended. He sat out last week and is also out this week.. so is their starting HB Willis for a violation of team policy.

No official word on the length of the suspension... they may both be back next week.. may be more games to come.

The Freshman who is starting now though is very good and a kid many around Belfry are very excited to have come up from Middle School. He is a throwback triple option QB and was the starting QB on the past two Middle School State Champion teams (Starting QB as a 7th grader).

He looked really good in the Summer and pushed hard for playing time. He is going to be a special one for sure..and to be honest though it would be unexpected... I would not be surprised one bit to see him somehow remain the starter if he can put another nice game together tonight and next week.

If Browning does well tonight Haywood will make Corbett earn the starting spot back... it won't just be handed to him.
