South Floyd 35 Allen Central 28 (58th district championship)

Final

Looks like Coach Hammonds from Letcher was coaching both these teams. Wow what an offensive explosion.
#3
Raiders by a touchdown. Sounds about right.

First Dist. Championship win by SF in 10 years (2005). Start of the 4th SF literally held the ball and ran 4 minutes off the clock before AC decided to play defense. Terrible coaching by AC, wasted half the quarter only down by 2.

Congrats Raiders, way to bring the trophy back to Left Beaver again! Also to note, that possibly was the last district tourny to be held at SF.

Not a fun game to watch, AC played the Dean Smith four corner game to try and negate the talent difference. It did keep them close, turning point comes at start of 4th quarter when SF has 2 point lead and gives AC a dose of their own medicine, holding the ball for over 4 minutes, probably should have come out of the zone, but stick to what got you there.

Allen Central makes me sleepy:zzz:

I am glad for the SF coach. Now maybe they will leave him alone and let him coach

Game stayed close through the first of the last quarterAC pulled to within one several times but could not get over the hump..Score was 16-17 at half..Not exactly a barn burner..

It was a very slow, and methodical game to watch. Brad Short came in with a gameplan which was to hold the ball, and they literally ran the 4 corners for 3 quarters, which it worked but of course there's 4 quarters. The beginning of the 4th was very bizarre with South Floyd holding the ball for the first 4 minutes, and AC didn't do anything about it. South Floyd called a timeout with 3:56 to go, came out and scored a basket immediately, and it was basically over from there. Congrats to coach Holbrook and South Floyd on winning their first district crown in 10 years. With the recent dominance of Betsy Layne, and Prestonsburg in this district, it was great to see the respective schools on left and right beaver to battle it out for district, great atmosphere, and albeit a slow and boring game, still went right down to the wire. Best of luck to both teams in the upcoming regional tournament.

I don't know what Brad was thinking?Still scratching my head.Raiders used it to their advantage and it worked out for them.Good job Raiders.Haven't seen a game like this in a long long long time. I hope to never see it again.
