I will give HDE one thing, hes older than father time.
As for me trading schools to cheer for, trust me I still hope Whitley buries HC into the ground every single year, but don't talk about the schools where im at.
A district 8 all star team would have time competing with Bowling Green.
I think HC is going to start taking the Bell County path. I expect a new coaching staff within 2 or 3 years and then the slide will begin until somebody eventually rebuilds again.
Much older, sonny, so stop arguing with me.
Come on over to the HCHS weight room and we'll see who can bench press the most
I will have to agree about the Bell County path. That is very possible that there will be years when they are 7-5, like Bell was last year.
I also agree about the District 8 all-star team having a tough time against Bowling Green. You do know though that the all-star team the past four years would include about 80 percent Black Bears.

You couldn't touch me on bench, I may be out of shape but I never lost my bench nicker: I could still throw up 10 reps at 315.
As for the 80% black bear comment, that's my exact point lol. This district has been strong from top to bottom in 5 years. This year will not be fun for district 8 either. Madison Southern and Pulaski will have there way with this region im afraid. 2015 will be a different story though...

I was disagreeing with him more than you in this case.
My point is future star players don't become stars overnight and would not have been forgotten due to consolidation of schools.
Think about some of the stars in the 13th Region the past two decades.
Richie Farmer, for example, was playing on Clay County's state tournament team in 1984, the first year I covered the Sweet 16, as an 8th grader.
Tony Pietrowski was a big-time player already as a freshman. I'm not from Corbin, but I'm sure he was one of the best in middle school.
Charles Thomas was being talked about in the first grade and was a star by the time he was a 6th grader at Cumberland. He started as an 8th grader at Harlan.
I'm the same age as Phil Cox and everyone knew he was going to be a great player in middle school.
These are all Division I players. There haven't been that many.
The story was about the decline of Division I players in Kentucky. The idea that some future Division I players are lost because of consolidation just makes no sense. It doesn't happen. Nobody is so good, at least in Kentucky, that they are going to fall by the wayside as freshmen because the team has too much talent already.
Agreed, Agreed. You win this one.

1. Knox
2. Clay Co.
3. Williamsburg
4. Corbin
5. Harlan Co.
6. North
7. Whitley Co.
8. South
9. Bell Co.
10. Jackson Co.
That is about right I think North is going to be real good.

Whitley lost one kid and had there best year in a long time last year.
They should be the favorite in the 50th, although South and Corbin should be close behind.
I think the team to beat in the 50th is Williamsburg tell me where I am wrong.

I am just going by Senior athletes plus A big big big PLUS Massey, I saw him in A pick up game over at the college from what I saw He out rebounded all of them and went toe to toe with their best, I may be wrong but they have to be much better than they were last year with the addition of Fred Massey and they were pretty damn good last year. And, they have the same team back and lowery is about 4 inches taler he is still just about A good 6 ft. I know nothing about BB but I do know an athlete when I see one. I may be wrong that is just My Opinion.

Senior athletes mean nothing, and pick up games also mean nothing. If that's the case I need to be playing D1 ball somewhere cause me and a bunch of has beens wiped the court this summer with some current and former college players. And it is obvious that u know nothing about basketball because I watched Clay County beat this team by 30 in the region and they called the dogs off in the 3rd quarter or it would have been 50. I think Williamsburg is good but they ant winning this region the next 3 years unless they bring in some major transfers

Andrew Griffin 6ft 5 Junior
Fred Massey 6ft 3 Senior
Cory Shelton 6ft 2 Senior
Chase Lowery 6ft Senior
Skylor Griffin 6ft2 Senior Where am I wrong.

Hey don't get your panties in A wad they may not win A game and you are right I know nothing about Basketball. I said and I will repete there is, 5 damn good athletes ON THAT TEAM maybe more.. I am so sorry I upset you and I want to say I am sorry to the posters I guess I just don't understand what this all about. I would like to set you straight on 1 thing you did not play the same team last year. Fred Massey was attending Harlan County High School AND lOWERY WAS 5FT 7 INCHES TALL. I DIDN'T SAY THEY WOULD WIN THE REGION EVER. ONE MORE THING THE TEAM YOU PLAYED LAST YEAR WAS ALL jUNIORS.

10-16-2014, 08:01 PM
Massey is probably 6-1, maybe 6-2
10-16-2014, 08:03 PM
roster has massey listed as 6 1 and skyler as 6ft. I have stood beside skyler and I am 6 2 and skyler is not even close

Good athletes don't necessarily translate to regional championships. Good basketball players, and coaches, do.

The height of those Williamsburg BB players I got that from the height and weight chart in the training room,

I know it is difficult to let a new kid on the block but, you just get ready for it Williamsburg will either be on top or knocking on the door. You will just have to deal with it.

They look like last year's Corbin team on steroids.

It's going to be sad when you build Williamsburg up like this and either (A): they don't get to region....or (B) They run into Clay again and take a 50 point beatdown.
I heard the same stuff last year and honestly I have no clue how Knox lost to Williamsburg in the region....Just because they played Corbin close in the district finals people thought they were legit, but in reality they wasn't.

Exactly, HDE. I didn't word my statement clearly enough. And for the record, I've seen many good high school basketball players that were not the definition of good athletes. They could play basketball, though. To be clear, Williamsburg WILL NOT win the 13th region. They might not even make the regional tournament. No insult to the "Burg, just better basketball teams.

I think Williamsburg is very comparable to Corbin from what I saw in the summer. I think it could go either way. Whitley is also very dangerous if they play as hard as they did last year. South is always dangerous, but they have a lot of question marks at this point.
The thing that could hurt Williamsburg is its schedule. I thought they'd toughen it up some this year, but it doesn't look like it. I understand Williamsburg playing smaller schools, but when you have a top five team in the region you have to step up the competiton. Harlan County tried to get them to play last year when HCHS was a game short and Williamsburg had seven or eight openings but had no luck. Harlan County and Harlan have an opening this year for games on a Saturday. Robinson has done a nice job, but if Williamsburg isn't ready in March people will look at that schedule. It seems like West played pretty tough competition when they had good teams around 2000.
