RICHMOND, Ky. – Senior football player Jordan Berry was named the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Sunday night.
Berry, hailing from Essendon, Victoria, Australia, was called on for three punts Saturday night in the victory against Austin Peay. He averaged 48.7 yards per punt and landed all three inside APSU's 20-yard line. Berry's final punt of the game came from his own end zone and he boomed it 77 yards to the Austin Peay 16-yard line. That punt was a career long for Berry and just one yard shy of the EKU record which was set in 1966 by Bob Plotts.
For the season, Berry is averaging 40.7 yards per punt with 12 of his 25 punts landing inside the opposition's 20-yard line. Berry has hit at least one punt 50 yards in five of the six games this fall.
Berry helped Eastern convert a fourth down at Morehead State on Sept. 21 in unique fashion by kicking the ball to teammate Trey Thomas, who then ran for the first down. That play has been viewed almost 1.5 million times on YouTube.
After an off week next Saturday, the Colonels (3-3, 1-1 OVC) will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 for Homecoming against Tennessee Tech.
