Harlan County 2013
#61
Any new updates on the Blackbears off and how it is going?
#62
Rumors are going around town that the bears have added old cawood coach John Luttrell to the coaching staff??? Anyone know of anything for sure?
#63
It is true and a great add for the Black Bears. Luttrell is not only a good coach but a great motivator.

I had heard at the ballgame the other day that he will be coaching running backs and D-line.
#67
Coach Luttrell will bring a lot of intensity to the field! Good Hire!

I wonder if someone will step up from the Freshman or JV team and make an impact with Varsity?

Derek Akal gave up basketball, I'm curious to see how he comes out!

Cameron Cornett was a freshman last year. I don't know if he will contribute next year or not, but he will be a very nice player. There were a couple of freshmen that quit that I would like to see get back out. Especially, Kelin Gist and Jake Ball. Those two are too talented not to play.

Neither of those kids quit. Both were injured.

Couple of questions. Does anyone know how many kids are working out this off season? What kind of freshman class is HC looking at?

Seems like they both got hurt in the same game or within a few games of each other. They both look to be very promising!

Fred Massey was a feature back for the JV he might join Long and Wilson in the backfield. Along with Whitehead clearing the way, he had some pretty nice runs toward the end of the season. He also will miss the other half of the Legion of Doom (Tucker Lewis) but little brother Hunter Lewis is primed to take big brothers spot!

Talked to Coach Luttrell today and he said that there was about 55 young men working out at this time, which is an awesome number for offseason, with the basketball players still in season. Now I am not sure if that includes any freshman to be in 2013, he was very impressed with the work ethic of the Black Bear players and the amount of time that they were going in the weight room and in the gym. On the topic of the schedule for the next two years, I can only say it's top shelf, lined up with traditional powers in three different classes, some of the best coaches in the eastern half of the state. Friday nights at the palace should be the place to be.

I agree 55 is pretty impressive, and shows the dedication of this team. Happy to see Coach Luttrell join this staff because of the motivation he brings to the table. I like HC chances this coming season even with this brutal schedule they will have. Hopefully this schedule will have them ready to make a run deep into the playoffs or all the way to BG. I will be at every game home or away, can't wait to spend friday nights back at the new stadium.

Mountain Pride 10, I like the name palace. This could be one of the best coaching staffs put together in Harlan County. Larkey, Canady, Luttrell, that is a pretty good brain trust, not to mention up and coming coach Ed Creech who I think is going to be a dandy. Along with Farmer, Reynolds, Caldwell and a couple of younger coaches, this is a nice coaching staff!! I can't wait!! Harlan County has a chance to call themselves King of the Mountains after this coming season because they play the best of the mountains.
#75
Yeah i like the palace as well b.c. i agree thats a nice staff. This should be a remarkable yr for the bears. Im gonna go ahead and go out on a limb and say this will be H.C. best team to date.

I know both got injured, but they also left the team. Neither are on the team as of right now.

I'm glad to see JC on this schedule looking foward to this game. HC really has a schedule that should be respected by anyone

IMO Harlan has the toughest schedule of any team in the mountains which will help them go deep into the playoffs this year.
With Knox, bell, Johnson central, belfry, Whitley, that's going to be a hard row to hoe with that many top notch teams.

Belfry and Greenville Tn a team that you did not list are the toughest two and the others not far behind. I have said also by far the toughest schedule in the mountains BAR NONE.:redboxer:

They both was injured but neither left the team and both are still on the team.

I think Whitley could make an argument for that statement once again.
Knox, Bell, Rock, Boyle, Madison Southern, Harlan County

After seeing the team last year, and with the talent they have coming back this year, plus the addition of Coach Luttrell, i agree that this may just be the best team as of yet. We know HC can pound you with the running game, with Bailey having a year under his belt at QB, i'm praying they come out with somewhat of a passing game to keep the D guessing...Dang i can't wait till the season starts.

Whitley is not even close to the schedule that Harlan has.

How can you list Rock, they were 2-8 and aren't in same level as any of those teams mentioned.

Okay. So Whitley playing Bell, Boyle, Knox, Morristown West, and Madison Southern isnt even close? Give me a break.

I meant to pust MW instead of Rock, either way they get them again.
And i can put them because i have a keyboard and i know how to type.
It could have been much worse. We could have been playing your North Laurel team.
