Is Chuck Smith interested in the Ashland job?
#31
I happen to think Matney's next job will be a return to his alma matter. When Haywood finally hangs it up, a worthy replacement waits in the wings.
#32
From what I am hearing Coach Smith is gonna sit back and collect his paycheck from UK for the next year and see what open up in College ranks next year before looking at possible move back to high school.
#33
I talked to Coach Matney about an hour ago and he told me that he hasnt been contacted about the Ashland job and that he is happy at Johnson Central.
#34
I have heard that Ashland is having a hard time finding anyone who is even remotely interested in the job. Rumor has it that NotsoBADCAT has to be retained as the waterboy/shower stall cleaner by whomever it is that takes the job. The excess baggage that goes with the job seems to be the major turn-off.

Why would he even consider taking a step backwards to begin with?

I wouldn't call the ashland job a step backwards. Imagine what matney could do with his style and a talent like quinton baker. Also I believe the community support and booster support at ashland makes it very enticing which is why he listened. That being said it would be a divisive hire and he knows that. And some certain public tomcat figures wouldn't approve. So why would he leave JC for a situation where he would have to sell himself to some of the decision makers is why I don't think he takes the job.

Did you not read Coach Booths post? Coach Booth just stated that he has not even been contacted to begin with (which if anyone would know, it would be Coach Booth).....Why would Matney be the least bit worried about Quinton Baker anyways? He developes a superstar caliber back every year on his own. Have you forgotten the never ending stable of Blume, Johnson, Grimm, Richardson, Hall, Dillon, Jude, and now Young and Belcher?......Enticing community support and booster support? lol...I've been to Putnam and I've been to the nest. Ashland cant even come close to that of Johnson Co.....Now that's a good one....What you have are a snobby elitist feeling bunch that just cant get over the fact that the glory years were 50 years ago....lol...The ego of some Ashland ding-a-lings just cant let them imagine that not everyone is just dying to head up an inferior underacheiving program. Commonly known as the NotsoBADCAT Syndrome".......This is all nothing more than just the wishful ultimate fantasy of Tomcat fans.

I too have been to ashland and JC and I can tell you I've never seen the home sideline at ashland half empty especially for a big district game. And yes matney has a talent for developing backs and quinton and his physical tools would be special in that system. I also know he has been contacted how much interest he had I do not know. But a call was made. So chalk that up to coachspeak

But then again, he has his own that are special, and has them every year, huh? Why go out and buy a Lincoln when you have a Cadillac sitting in the driveway already. It's like he really needs someone else to beat Ashland.

BTW, what does Ashland seat 500? 750? 875?.....lol

You there to hear this alleged phone call?.......What I thought.....You must be talking to NotsoBADCAT.

Even if it were made, just shows that Ashland is salivating over what is at JC, and does not think they can beat JC as long as he is here.......Confusednicker:

Well unlike JC, at least they have glory years to talk about. Confusednicker:

You may wanna count again. I believe Putnam seats over 3,000 pretty sure over 4,000 but wouldn't swear to it. Also never said his past players weren't special. But quinton scored what I believe is 24 td's as a freshman and that's missing the last 3 regular season games and playoffs. The numbers he would put up in matney's system would be astonishing is all I'm saying. Not discounting the ability or success of any JC player.

But then again that has nothing to do with JC's yearly thrashing of Ashland.

So your saying that Ashland has an inferior system?

Boy, you sure have gotten touchy. You're even starting to act like NotsoBADCAT.

Lets be honest, Matney is a miracle worker, but I dont think that even he could transform that disfunctional bunch coming up from the freshman class.

Bob Seger Wrote:So your saying that Ashland has an inferior system?

No not at all. Just saying with the running style if matney quinton would be a good fit is all and so would a big strong Qb like elam.not that it is any better or worse. Just that it would be a good fit.

And not touchy just having some fun. We all gotta do something to get thru the offseason.

Bob, you are dumber than you sound if you think that Baker isn't a special talent. The guys you listed were excellent high school players but Baker will or already has SEC type speed and trust me there is a difference.
#49
I hear they will announce Tony Love as the new head football coach at the basketball game tonight between AB and JC.

Sec speed? The kid is good but that might be a stretch. He was no bigger or faster than Devon turner of fairview this year and turner isn't even playing d1 let alone sec.
#51
His Dad had SEC size and speed. He is very good but might not be quite to that level. He is young though. You never know

It's like he vanished like a fart in the wind. Lord it's a miracle!

Yep, just as soon as Ashland gets beat by JC he vanishes into thin air, until September of the next year.....lol

I think there may be more substance to that Ashland freshman class than what most believe. It will be interesting to see how much a couple of kids in that class grow.

Gosh, Leapin Lee, according to what I saw myself and then from the comments of the always overly zealous hometown Tomcat faithful, it looks like you may just very well be what you just accused me of being.....Confusednicker:

Naw, the only one that believes any of that propaganda is the always entertaining, world famous, (and the KHSAA's favorite son), NotsoBADCAT".

Finished 3rd in the regional hundred meters as an 8th grader and Devin Turner was in the field. So you are wrong.

He will be back when football gets going. You two can resume the love fest then. Lol
