Whats your opinions on the these Matchups? I dont think Pikeville and williamsburg play each other but how about harlan vs. these two?
02-21-2012, 12:08 PM
I know both Harlan and Williamsburg return lots of talent and experience. Should be 2 very good teams come playoff time. Pikeville will need an able replacement for Maynard, if that can be accomplished they should be solid as well. But to be the champ you gotta beat the champ.....Hazard will be in the hunt for another state title this year and all three of the teams you mentioned will have to find a way to knock the Dogs off the throne to get consideration in Elite status in my humble opinion.

pikeville in years past have had after a great season the following season not been so great so thatll be interesting to see if they can fill some posistions. Harlan has tremendus talent amd should be a better matchup vs. Hazard this year. Williamsburg is still maybe another year out to being back to where they need to be to compete with the pikes harlan and hazard. imo.

IMO, Williamsburg will win the region.
02-22-2012, 03:58 PM
W'burg returns everything but the kitchen sink; however, these 3 teams are still light yrs behind Hazard... IMO, it will come down to the weightroom!
02-22-2012, 06:43 PM
light years?? really? williamsburg held the almighty bulldogs to 28 points and pikeville gave hazard a better game than mayfield did in state so ur comment on being light years away is to far.
02-22-2012, 07:13 PM
agreed... but the main difference in the W'burg game and Mayfield game...strength at the o-line and d-line position... skill wise very even.
02-22-2012, 08:19 PM
IMO, Harlan will be a tougher match for hazard. This past season in the playoffs, harlan was depleted with injuries, 6 starters out. returning 15 seniors and 6 juniors, with some good upcoming freshmen. One thing i do agree with, it will all come down to the weightroom.

Harlan will be much improved as they were last year. Williamsburg is still young but will be very good as well. Pikeville will be Pikeville and always in the mix. Hazard will still be the top dawg to knock off but i just dont see no one doing next year but after next year then its wide open.
02-23-2012, 12:37 AM
Yes light years. Anyone that was at the Hazard Williamsburg game last year would laugh at your 28 point comment. Hazard had 28 points on them in the first half. The second half Hazard basically turned and handed the ball to the fullback every play and ran the clock out. The fullback got more touches the second half than he had all year. The coaching staff was basically resting his quality players the second half.

i was at the whs game and watched the film. and i distinctly remember williamsburg being inside the ten at least 7 times (in the first half) just being outmatched in maturity really prevented williamsburg from scoring but u acting like hazard dominated that first half is hilarious and the fact that hazard as you say felt lik they could go the second half and not score is even more hilarious(stupid)

Wburg is better than Harlan and will beat them.
However, i think Harlan has a better chance to beat Hazard than Wburg does.
You also have to remember that the region championship will be played at Hazard if they make it.

the only team that i can see being able to play with hazard this year is pikeville they played them pretty good in the region championship last year.....IMO the other 2 teams are a couple of years away from closing the gap to hazard
02-23-2012, 10:19 AM
Well, i disagree with that. Both harlan and williamsburg are great teams, Harlan plays Pikeville first game of the regular season. I have harlan by a couple TD's

Mastadon you are right Williamsburg moved the ball well in the first half, but being so young they liked maturity to score in the red zone. Sizemore was picking a good Hazard secondary apart before his injury late in the first half(12-20-for 163 yards) when he went out. Say what you may Williamsburg was headed for a big night passing the ball against the best defenses in A, and they all will be back next year. Hazard,Harlan and Williamsburg looks to be the teams to beat in the Eastern part of the state.

Problem with that is all three would have to play each other. I think Fairview and Raceland will have good teams as well and fight it out to see who wins that region along with Pikeville. Fairview lost alot of talent but has a very good class of 10th graders and Raceland does as well.
02-23-2012, 11:13 AM
Great point RP. Raceland has a good foundation for the future. All of the above teams will be very competitive this upcoming year.

Pikeville not light years from Hazard. They were a couple of plays and poor decisions from taking Hazard to the wire. Next year the game would be at Pikeville so we will just have to wait and see.

Agreed, JP. And the thing about it is, Pikeville played Hazard a better game than Mayfield in the champ. game.

Pikeville may be a great team but I can't see it they lost alot of lineman and Maynard was a great playmaker. Only dressed 30 during playoffs they will earn the number 1 seed I'm sure cause of the district but can't see why you guys think they will be that good, please explain if you know? Thanks

Harlan returns alot of players. Hazard will reload. Pikeville will have to replace some but will be in the hunt. I know Williamsburg returns 19-22 starters. Top 5 rushers, top 6 receivers, QB and back-up QB, 394-402 points, top 7 tacklers and 12 of top 13 tacklers and all 16 int's.

Wburg lost virtually nothing.
Wburg lost virtually nothing.

Pikeville, Harlan, Fairview, Williamsburg and Raceland will all be in the hunt to go to state. Hazard is still # 1 in this area and until someone beats them they are on top. All these teams are close to Hazard but light years away is a poor statement. Pikeville give hazard a hell of a game last year and not only was it a playoff game Hazard and Pikeville are rivals and you always get the best shot in those types of games.

Im wondering how you say williamsburg is better than harlan and will beat them, yet harlan has a better chance of beating hazard? I do think both teams could have a legit chance of beating hazard, harlan meets hazard in district play later in the season. Yet, playoffs are what matters. Next years playoffs between Wburg and Harlan will be a much closer game, imo. We'll see how it goes.

Because Harlan matches up better.
Have you ever heard of matchups?
Williamsburg will steam roll that district, including Harlan.
02-27-2012, 01:20 AM
Harlan and Williamsburg aren't in the same district.

Who said they were?
I was simply saying that they will roll threw there district, which they will and also beat Harlan.

Agreed that W'burg wins District 5. More worried of Harlan than RIUTG though. Turnovers +3 for Harlan in first meeting, they won by 3 scores. Turnovers +4 for W'burg in playoffs, 'Burg won by 4 scores. Teams seem very even and will come down to who has a better night. As for Harlan/Hazard, would think regular season game is key to get Hazard off the home field for the playoffs, for the eventual playoff chances of both Harlan and Williamsburg.

I think you did.
I was just clearing up any confusion. They were in the same district for a long time.

Hazard was way to physical for Harlan last year. If Harlan has any kind of chance against them they will have to close that gap!
