Moonshine
#1
With Discovery Channels new show Moonshine, I was wondering how many people drink or used to drink moonshine. What is/was your favorite favor?

I've drank straight moonshine, and I've also drank strawberry moonshine..
Straight moonshine taste horrible..
Strawberry moonshine taste pretty good..

Advice: If you aren't used to drinking or you're a lightweight, DON'T DRINK A LOT OF IT!

There used to be an old timer who lived about a mile from me back home that made watermelon moonshine. That was some pretty good stuff.

Honestly, I've never seen it before. If anyone wants to hook me up though..... Wink

Being from Mud Creek I have obviously drunk moonshine. I used to drink straight moonshine and peach moonshine. The last time I was drunk (November 1998) I was drinking Jim Beam. When we ran out we went to moonshine. I was sicker than a dog and extremely hung over the next day. I have not drunk since other than someone getting me to try a sip a time or two.

There are two moonshine stills within a mile of my house. I can see my neighbor's barn where one is located from my front porch lol.

I heard a story once about a guy that picked up a hitchhiker, not knowing that he was drunk. When the guy got in the car after about a mile up the road he jerked out a pint of moonshine. He asked the driver did he want to join him in a drink. He declined. The drunk got angry and said, "A man that won't drink with me makes me mad". Then he pulls out a pistol and said, "You're gonna take a drink!" So, the driver nervously takes the pint bottle and takes a swig. The drunk took the bottle back and then handed the driver the gun and said, "Now, you hold that gun on me while I take a drink."

Must have been some potent, non-tempered stuff, lol.

I only drink the clear, never flavored. All they do to most of the flavored, is add about 1/2 Kool-aid to it. I like the full strength. Good moonshine is my favorite whiskey.

Someone gave me a pint for Christmas a couple years ago. I gave it away though. Dusty, I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who can hook you up.

^ So Moonshine is considered a Whiskey?

Moonshine is any distilled spirit made in an unlicensed still. As with all distilled spirits, yeast ferments a sugar source to produce alcohol; the alcohol is then extracted through by means of distillation.

Because of its illegal nature, moonshine is rarely aged in barrels like proper whiskey,

Not if its done right. The best way to do it is to only add the kool-aid mix not the mixed kool-aid. Then it doesnt dilute your shine.
By the way blackberry was the best i had, but after eating all the berries at the end of the jar i didnt feel to well for a couple days.

I watched about 5 minutes of that show and that was all I could stand. The drunk guy in the red plaid shirt was very annoying.

However, there is a place in Tennessee that makes "legal" moonshine.

I tried it once and didn't care for it too much......I will just stick with Corona

The kind I used to drink had real peaches in it because we used to eat the peach once we had drunk all the shine.

I'll bet Vundy has not and will not ever partake in this beverage.

Same here, but the watermelon chunks would give it a nasty texture once they were in it for awhile, so he would strain it through cheesecloth before putting it in jars.

Boys I wont drink moonshine. My grandpa was a successful moonshiner years ago. He had his shine all the way to Georgia. He had drivers and a big set up for awhile. Then one day the feds caught him. He was federal prison for some time, and then he got out and done it again. Then he finally got caught again. Man taught all I need to know about it and I'm about afraid to drink anyone's shine. Lord rest the mans soul. Im sure he is running a still up in the clouds lol

I had moonshine one time back in the day when I was young and stupid. I will never do it again, it was the most drunk that I had ever been. All I can remember of that night was going to some festival in Morehead. The only thing I remember about that festival was watching people play roulette with a rat. I kept yelling "What are these people doing playing redneck roulette?" Luckily for me, the friend that I was with knew a lot of people and got me out of there alive. I am sure that I was really obnoxious that night and I angered many people.

I believe they have a legal moonshine disterelly in West Virginia that makes a brand called White Lightning.
I believe its a 100 proof and pretty good ive never had it.

I have tried Apple, peach and watermelon, but the day of finding good moonshiners that you trust (because some can kill you if they dont know what there doing) is about over.

Anyone remember the show on CMT that showed that guy named popcorn in TN making it?

Its definitely a go getter when it comes to getting a buzz, but like someone said, for those who have never drank it and jump right in trying to drink to much will either kill there self or end up with alcohol poisioning depending on how potent it is.

Its GREAT for toothaches if you have one, put it on a q tip and stick it right up in your tooth. Or drank it till you black out and youll not feel a thing lol.

I've drunk it straight but I prefer Smirnoff Ice over anything

A country singer named Matt Stillwell invited me and a few of my friends to take part in the filming of his first music video for a song called "Shine" back in the Summer of 2008 at Fontana Lake, NC.

They brought like 12 jars of Popcorn's moonshine down and passed them around the entire video. I have had moonshine on a handful of different occasions but that was the strongest I had ever had. Sutton died in 2009.

Here is the video for any that was interested:

FYI
Though like many “reality type” TV shows the question remains, “How much reality is there here?”
The answer most likely lies in the trend we continue to see on television with a recipe of “part reality” and “part scripted” which equals “entertainment.”
In fact, Alcoholic Beverage Control Agent Jesse Tate tells a Lynchburg, Virginia based ABC affiliate 13 News in the video report below, “Nobody in the whole series was actually making any liquor, we wouldn’t allow that. If we knew somebody was making liquor they would have been in the next episode in handcuffs.”

That weekend was a blast. We camped out and partied it up all weekend. Fontana Lake is gorgeous and that night he shot the "concert" scenes at the resort. After shooting was over Matt and a bunch of other country singers played basically all night.

He used to invite us personally anytime he was nearby and had us come to his album release party here in Atlanta. Now that he is on the road he has long since forgot about us though. He's a talented guy.

The album before "Shine" was better "Take It All In".If you ever get the chance there are several good songs on it.
