WYMT Mountain Top 10 9/20

MonsterMan Wrote:I agree Pulaski is a great team and have not seen Somerset play and know they are in a lower class, but could Somerset line up with KC and JC and play smashmouth football with them?
I know year to year is different but the Jumpers played KC last year 11 days after their coach quit and beat them @ KC in a grind 'em out style game, when Somerset didn't really know what kind of team they would be. Jumpers also beat practically this same Pulaski team last year in the second game of the season in a classic game that could have went either way.

It would be great game with either KC or JC but I would like our chances, but anything can happen in a football game. This years Jumpers wouldn't grind it out on O but spread it out and take what the D gave them. KC and JC both have class programs and I respect both a great deal.

I think Pulaski is a quality team this year, but I can't see them being ranked ahead of Somerset.

Well either way it goes I would still be happy! But, IMO Pulaski has played a tougher schedule and their only loss came to 6A Henry Clay and I don't see the Maroons losing another game just as I don't see Somerset losing another game in the Regular Season.

I don't know if Somerset could line up and play smashmouth with them but I know KC or JC would have a tough time doing it against Somerset. It is tough to play a grind it out type of game with Somerset because they can score quickly and in bunches. Take SW, Estill Co. for example. They came in with good game plans to run the ball and try to keep it out of Somerset's hands. The problem is Somerset's defense is too good to run the ball at the whole game and their offense is too good to try and play catch up. And if by "smashmouth" you mean a physical type game I can assure you this is the most physical Somerset team I have seen in a while.

What I find funny in this weeks poll is KC above JC, even though JC beat KC earlier in the season.

Pretty fair poll. Will not see no complaints from me.

That's ok. Our boys work hard every day and have one thing on their mind and that's another District Championship but they want that Regional to go along with it this Year!!! Good luck Hawks!!! :1:

.
What do you mean another district championship? When did Pike Central win their first district championship?

it is funny but KC has really turned it up ever since the OT loss to JC and the moutain top ten is usually dont matter anyways IMO

Forever Maroon Wrote:Knox has only 1 loss, JC has 2. That's the big difference.

Your right too. JC has lost to the #1 and #2 teams in 4A. Not a easy task to do.

So do you think if KC and Clay Co met up again possibly Clay would beat KC since it was a 9-6 ball game?

If so, then my apologies but I did NOT hear Pike Centrals name mentioned during either of the above mentioned broadcasts. Like I said before, Pike Centrals name was up, but I never heard it mentioned but its not a big deal, we're just happy to be in the top 10. BTW your weekly summary highlights are terrific!!

Just wanted to make sure ... no disrespect at all for the Hawks ... they are a tremendous team and are playing their butts off!!!

I just wonder why this list does not have Sheldon Clark at least at #10 spot...Everyone was saying that Lawrence County had not played anyone but we were #8 last week...SC has a great defense and beat the #8 team...give credit were its due.

I thought District Championships were decided in the 2nd week of the playoffs now anyways, hasn't it been like that since the new alignment? If that is the case then PCC did in fact win a district championship last season.

second week of playoffs Pike Central had to play Mason Co. then the third week lost to Sheldon Clark. The district Champion is decided during the regular season and region the third week of playoffs.

BTW I am a huge Pike Central supporter however, I do not see how Pike Central can be mentioned in a poll above Belfry at this point in the season. Belfrys strength of schedule and wins are much more impressive than that what we have. Granted Belfry lost a game however, they have played up and beat four of the five losing to a tough P-Burg team is noting to frown about. In addition is this the first time Pike Central has been in the Mountain Top 10 without Belfry?

You do a great job Derek at giving teams their dos. I have heard you say nothing but positive things on the Pike Central programs. Keep up the good work Sports Overtime has improved alot since you jumped on board. Thanks for all you do.

It was like that for a couple of seasons where you played your district foes again the first two weeks of the playoffs. Not so anymore, as 15th points out in the next post.

Belfry lost to Pburg and Ashland. The Pirates beat Cov Holy Cross, Letcher Central and Whitley Co. They are 3-2 on the season.

My mistake I knew it had been like that at one point but couldn't remember if that was still how it worked or not.

JC at #5, with a 30 points lose to Bell Co. they shound drop to 7 or 8. That show that they are not a top 5 team. Yea JC beat Knox, but only by 1 point in overtime.
If that was another team. that get beat by 30 points. They would drop them to around 8 if not out of the top 10.

do you think there is anyone on that list that can stay within 30 points of bell? or atleast any that are currently under JC?

None of them can.
Somerset and Pulaski maybe stay within 30 pts, but I still say Bell would take em both down by 3 TDs.

None under JC could! I think the only ones that could would be Somerset and Pulaski Co.

Only team that could play with Bell is the Harlan County Black Bear Cubs.
