Mr. Basketball

I had never really fallen into all the Justice hype but with Valley winning it how can you not give it to the kid? If he doesn't its a sham. Also, he is better then walking at UofL JMO.

I think Justice will win Mr Bball but let me compare seasons!

Same averages scoring, Sewell >reb, Justice >asssist, steal

Sewell Justice

Ballard 1-2 1-0 State Both scored about 20/game against
Male 2-1
Jtown 1-0 1-0
Seneca 3-0
Lex Cath 1-0
Chris Co 0-1
Clark Co 1-0
Scott Co 1-0
Eastern 1-0
St X 1-0
Mason Co 1-0 state
Bowling Gr 1-0
Shelby Co 0-1

Top 20 THS13-4 SV3-1

Tourney KOB,RBC,LIT All A, State

Tourney strength IMO

1 LIT
2 KOB
3 RBC
4 State
5 All A

This doesn't mean that Justice couldn't have performed just as well but he didn't get the chance; so although I think Justice certainly is deserving, Sewell did as much against a lot better competition this season and I believe that if Trinity had the same road that SV had, they would have played Ballard last night and it's obvious from the fact they beat them once, they would have had a shot to win.,

In conclusion, Justice had a great year and is deserving for his career but his schedule and region and an fortuitous cakewalk to the finals of state certainly helped!

With the way all the media was talking at the Sweet 16, Elisha has it locked up.

Here is the problem with that. Essentially the Sweet Sixteen is a tournament that started with every single qualifying school in the state. Hundreds of teams played to get there, so every team that was eliminated should be considered part of this field. The teams that reached the Sweet Sixteen were simply the cream of the crop in their respective regions. The Sweet Sixteen is much more prestigous than any of those other tourney's. I am sure SV wouldn't trade either of their tournament titles for any of Trinity's.
#35
I wasn't talking about prestige, just about the quality of teams that had to be beaten to win and your logic doesn't hold up since, with the present format, only one team can get out of a region with multiple top 20 teams while another region can send a team not ranked in the top 50.

No way can a logical basketball person claim that the state tourney was more difficult to win than the LIT or KOB!
#36
Cake walk or not , they beat every team that they faced !!!!! Justice should win the honor IMO !!!!!!

loubballfan Wrote:Justice will win and because he won state he probably deserves it :blabbermo

Whatever. Shelby Valley didn't play the best team because they were the best team. Didn't Valley beat two Louisville teams by double digits? It doesn't appear to me that Louisville teams were much competition for Valley.
#38
Then obviously the rankings are flawed if SV wasn't ranked in the top 50, yet they won the tournament, and have the better record in the state. It doesn't matter how many "top 20" teams you think you have in your region, the better one should win the regional tournament and go to the sweet 16. If your team didn't make it out of your region, then they aren't the best in the state...no argument...period. No matter what anyone thinks about SV's schedule, what matters is that they beat the top teams in the state this weekend. Saying they had an easier schedule all season only means they had a tougher road to win this weekend.

I am not an SV fan, just tired of hearing all the excuses of why other teams didn't win or why these kids did not deserve it. Congrats SV...you deserve it.
#39
are you kidding me? still someone arguing the fact that justice doesnt deserve this. GET OVER IT. he led shelby valley to their first state title, and the first in pike county. he was MVP of the tournament. he owned the court and dictated the game. Whether you wanna say it or not elish justice is amazing.

their regular season games may not have compared to trinitys, but in the end they beat the best of the best. more "top 20" teams may have been on trinity's schedule, but trinity didnt make it out of their region. Justice led the wildcats to a STATE TITLE.

Justice for Mr. Basketball.

EJ should win. He has been the most consistent player all year long. Then you add an all A championship, and a Sweet Sixteen championship. He'll win.
#41
Justice hands down......I talked to Derrek Forrest and he said if he doesnt win then someting is bad wrong with the system.
#42
If Justice doesnt win.
Then there is something wrong with the system.

Go head and give this young man what he deserves.

:worthy:

It's a LOCK for EJ.
#44

Check out this article on Justice. This guy thinks he is Mr. Basketball, and he thinks he shouldn't go to Louisville.

I won't disagree with anything you say except for the consistency thing.

Please take a look at Mr. Justice's stat line for the All A finals.

If you are basing it on consistency through the entire season, Mr. Sewell outweighs him in that category.

Sewell not only performed well in EVERY game he played, but stepped up even bigger in the finals of the major tournaments and against rivals districts teams in one of the nation's ten toughest districts/regions in the 27th Distirct as noted by CalPreps.com (through MaxPreps).

IMO if Pitino wants him he better go ahead and offer him a full scholly. After his showing in the Sweet 16 I'd say the we'll hear of more offers for this young man.

There is no issue about who deserves the Mr. Basketball award...
#52
After the regular season performance, I think that it was 50-50 for Justice and Sewell however, seeing as though Sewell could not further his case and Justice could, he took advantage and put on a show in the big lights. He is more than deserving of the award of Mr. Basketball and I hope and pray that the voters around the state see how his game mixed with character. Elisha Justice-My vote for Mr. Basketball.

Reminder.. Trinity had the same chance and lost to Ballard... Everything u and the Sewell lovers keep posting is negated by the fact that it's a bunch of what-ifs and "he did this back in the..." They each played Ballard and Justice and Valley got it done and Trinity watched them from the house... Period!!!!!

EJ is the best player in the state, EJ won the state championship, EJ=MR. Basketball
#55
Todd May in 1982, Virgie lost in the semifinals.

O.K. if Justice does not win the award, then it is because of the process of the award is awarded....ballots were casted two weeks ago...

If you base the overall season of the "candidates" then Justice wins by an "landslide"...

I'm a grade school coach in Pike County, so my heart of course goes to Elisha winning Mr. Basketball! I've read on here about all of there stats, who they played and so forth. This award should go to the best player on the best team. Valley proved they was the best team in Class A, then they proved they was the best team period by winning the sweet 16. Both of these tournaments were state wide talent showcases and Elisha came up major in both tournaments, winning MVP for both.

There scoring was about the same, from what I have read. Sewell might have averaged more rebounds but Elisha did not just break but smashed the all time steals record. As for how good the teams were they played on, both of these teams was ranked number 1 at some point during the regular season and I do not believe either ever fell out of the top 10. I know there are a lot of talented teams in Louisville for Trinity to go up against, but Valley does travel and plays really good teams from out of state and in state. Just ask J-Town!

As for the way the Sweet 16 is decided and so many teams being left out because certain regions are loaded and others are not! This tournament has been ran this way since I believe 1918 if you check KHSAA. No one has come out and said it, but I believe some are trying to say Trinity was a better team then Valley. If Trinity could not even win there own region, how do we know for sure they would have won state or made the finals if they had come out of the 15th like Valley did? And you can say what you want about Shelby Valley's region being weaker then Trinity's, but the closest scoring game Valley played in this run was against Betsy Layne in the regional final. I'm not by any means saying Betsy Layne is as good as Ballard or Trinity but the 15th isn't a push over anymore. And for one last little point, who beat Ballard and who didn't?

Say what you want, but you just watched Shelby Valley become a modern day version of Munchie from Hoosiers!

Why do we need another thread on this. We have all...already posted our opinions in the other Mr. Basketball thread.
