His uncle Gary and his uncle Jim are his coaches. His dad also has a great input.

Sorry, I guess you were talking about the AAU team. I think it is a Derrick Smith 17U.team. Where he only averages 6 points a game

Stepp and Cox are ranked high because they won this year. When you win and get to Rupp it opens peoples eyes. Slone has barely gotten out of the District in his 3 years.

Thats six points a game against the top competition in the country. How many assists is he averaging per game? Do you have that answer? Is it always about points? Obviously not because Clark is right around 5-6 or ever more assists per game. Isn't that what a point guard is supposed to do? I have seen Clark's game become so much more polished with him at the point this spring. He is breaking people down, hitting his mid range jumper, and DISHING the ball off. He is also making very good decisions with the basketball. One thing i love about his game is that he can penetrate, draw the defense, and help create offense for his team (spot up shooters, big men on the block). However, I feel that Clark may struggle with this summer is finishing around the basket with post players on every team standing around 6'9" - 6'10". He also may have some trouoble against quicker, stronger, more athletic guards but I don't really see that being a big problem. (He went around Nick Britt from WC when he wanted to in the state tourney). I have a very strong feeling that Mr. Stepp will get a nice division one college scholarship out of his summer play on the circuit. That's just my opinion.....

JR, you are a perfect example of this. You made it to the big show and really shined while on the big stage. If Slone can lead his team to Rupp this year he will get his chance as well, but getting beat early in the post season does nothing but raise questions about your ability and playing in Eastern Ky kids have to make it to Rupp to raise eyebrows

Over rated!!!! and Connections!!!!!!, how does one go from All-State as a Fresh.....to getting lost in the crowd. It is a coaches job to get his players notices, but I think sometimes they get too involved and destroy a player. I think the rankings are over rated in general, all these rating do is destroy any potential that a player may have. The players are fortunated that there are double doors going into the gym or we would have to play on the outside courts. JMO.

You must remember too that rankings are just someone's opinion of you and maybe how you played in two or three games or in a summer setting where you may have not even played with your high school team. College coaches know who can play, and they don't need rating systems for that. That is kind of like the CATS testing that all schools across the state do. How can you really rank a school and base its funding on how kids do on one test? What if the kid is not a good test taker? What if the kid dislikes the teacher giving them the test and anxiety sets in? You punish the school system for the one test. Rankings should be made during the regular basketball season as these "scouts" can see these kids play in their team system, and in a settign where they are comfortable to perform. Just my two cents!!!!!

I agree with that, and a lot of these scouts never see kids in Eastern Ky, in fact a lot of them never see kids outside their area. That goes back to what I said earlier that it is so important for players in our area to make it to the big show in Rupp.

Assists? I'd guess not many. He has never passed the ball much, and was told not to by his uncles.

Tate Cox is better than Clark Stepp...he can shoot better, handle the ball better, and is the best decision maker on the team.

Oh yeah w/out a doubt imo. Stepp does have a size advantage but Cox will probabily grow more as he gets older.

You really think people believe that you're not from JBS? Give me a break... who else would be watching spring basketball and commenting on Clark if you were not a family member? I must say he will never play D1. Alice Lloyd bound and you know it.

Clark runs JBS. If he doesn't like another player, they don't play. If he has trouble with some body, THEY get called to the office. Just the way it is.

Uncle Irv lol nope sorry thats not me...im just a person who loves the game and keeps up with local kids on how they play throughout the summer. Also I would like to point out that Landon Slone has been having a very solid summer so far. Keep up the good work boys.

They play on the same AAU team. If you know what Stepp is doing, you will also know what Slone is doing

Josh Crawford from Corbin. I'm from Corbin, but I was unable to see ANY Corbin games last year due to me playing ball up at my college and having no time to come home and watch. What is the run-down on Crawford? Anyone know? Thanks.

I personally dont think there should be rankings for players or teams for that matter. When most teams and players get ranked high they get a big head and think they are unbeatable, and when teams are ranked low, they start thinking, we should be higher or we must not be good enough to be ranked at all in most cases. I think they should just play the game and not worry about ranking these kids or teams. It should be more about team play instead individual accomplishment.

These Bolus rankings are a little bit ridiculous. He has 2 kids from Pineville and one from middlesboro in the top 50, but nobody from Cumberland on the list.
#56
I still dont think was intended to be a list of the top players in the state. If it was, why didnt the note at the bottom of the list say that instead of saying the players are ranked based on college potential.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Actually I'm not from eighter, I'm more of a 15th region guy but I have seen alot of these kids play.

i think landon slone has a lot to prove in his senior season as of right now u have to put stepp ahead of him just becuase of the fact that stepp has won his regional tournament and played on rupp areana floor slone hasnt rlly did any thing in the tournament since his freshman year

Desmond Johnson of Cumberland is better than Day of Pineville and Collins of JBS and I strongly believe is better than Crawford of Corbin.
