How about ole Whitesburg? Interesting that your sticking your nose into this, when you still have the same ol same ol nothing in Whitesburg. How about it there pal?

Oh, I forgot Don Childers put that new Crystal Burger in that same old run down Double Kwik.

The only Crystal Burger in Letcher County was in Fleming-Neon and it closed over 10 years ago. So when was the last time you been to Letcher County and have you even been to Whitesburg. Paintsville is a lot bigger and does have more stores and restaurants as they have a bigger population to support it . Whitesburg has more stores and restaurants than Martin County combined and equitable to Lawrence County. As far as going wet. Whitesburg only has liquor by the drink in restaurants. There are no package stores. Alcohol is sold in 5 restaurants and soon to be 6. Since alcohol started being served in June, 2007, 3 new restaurants have opened with a sports bar/restaurant opening in the fall. Most of the tax money generated by alcohol sales has been used in parks/recreation and activities for children. Tennis courts were redone, new skatepark was built, all the city parks were redone and refurbished. The city provides a much better fourth of July celebration, as well as a Labor Day celebration, Kids Day in the Summer, and Christmas in the Park. They are looking at taking money from alcohol and enclosing the city pool to make it indoors. A new recreation center is under construction in Whitesburg for youth which will contain gymnasiums, bowling alley, rock climbing, game room and other activities. Any police officer in Whitesburg will tell you the DUI rate has dropped since the town went wet. All the police officers have received new police cruisers since the town went wet. I work out of Paintsville and pay an occupational tax which Whitesburg doesn't have so I am familiar with that area. Paintsville is a very nice town. I am in Inez once a week and the only thing they have is a decent rec center. Whitesburg doesn't have much but it definitely has improved since it became wet.
