When your defensive line is anchored by a monster like RC Thomas, you know your defense is badass.  Those dudes were SCARY.... and scary good!!!

The opponents were  probably terrified. Their lives were likely threatened.

Wouldn't surprise me. I can only imagine what Thomas, John Francioni. and that bunch of misfits said to the opposing players during the game. I was a schoolmate of that bunch and I was scared as hell of 'em. I had art class with Thomas and he would come to class drunk most mornings. Everyone was scared to say anythiing to him about it,

Several teammates were probably skeptical about being on the team.

I would have been.  I never associated with Thomas and some of those guys , although RC was always okay to me whenever he spoke to me.  He was named 1st team All-State his senior year. Received a four year scholarship to  UK but got into a fight with and threatened  a UK running back the first day of spring practice and was kicked off the team and out of school. Four years later, stabbed his mother and cousin to death.  Really a shame. Too bad that he didn't allow football to be a healthy outlet for his anger and aggression. Most intimidating presence I ever saw on the football field, Opposing players were scared to death of the guy because he didn't care to hurt them and will tell them as much.
