State Champions by Class in Non-Classed sports
#14
I can see the other side of it too. When the state championships were first thought up it was under the position that everyone has the same chance to win the title. Small schools like hazard, Harlan, lily high school, and corbin(who was a 1A school in the 30's when they won the sweet 16) had a chance because you only had the kids who lived in your district. Also there were a lot less big schools because bussing wasn't like it is today. Where ther used to be six or seven schools in a county, they have consolidated into one. Also, now days with transfers and social media it isn't the same. Five of the best basketball players in Louisville may decide they "want to be engineers" and end up at manual. Or a kid may think he has a better chance at another school in his region and transfer there to try to win a title (especially in the 13th and 14th regions). Not everyone has an equal shot anymore, and no amount of coaching or development can even it up. The khsaa needs to develope two classes for the non contact sports.
